Hardesty's History of Calhoun County, West Virginia STEPHEN S. DIX Stephen S. Dix, whose occupation is farming, and whose residence is in Washington district, Calhoun County, West Virginia, was born in Harrison County, Virginia, June 10, 1837. John and Catherine (Synnott) Dix were his parents and are now deceased, his father dying on the 14th of February, 1873. In 1858, Stephen S. Dix came to Calhoun County, and he was married here in the following year. Elizabeth J., daughter of Peter and Janet (Connoley) Parsons, was born in Kanawha County, Virginia, July 26, 1843, and was united in marriage with the subject of this sketch on the 20th of August, 1859. Their children are seven: John J., born August 30, 1862; Peter P., January 4, 1867; Henry J., November 22, 1869; Benjamin E., March 7, 1872; Mary A., March 9, 1875; William M., July 24, 1878; James E., October 5, 1882. Stephen S. Dix served four years in the Union army, a member of Company G, 9th Virginia Infantry (Federal), and was a participant in thirty engagements. He was taken prisoner in October, 1862, and held till March 1863, when he made his escape and rejoined his regiment. In 1864 he was wounded. His address is Stephen S.
