She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Sally Parsons Butler. She was a 1985 Calhoun County Belle. She was a member of Linden Order of Eastern Star, Minnora Rebekah Lodge, Orma/Arnoldsburg Home Extension Club, and Orma United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Lenora Eggeman of Orville, Ohio, and Carolyn Miller of Rosedale; three brothers, Doy Butler of Chloe, Milton "Dolen" Butler of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and Nolen Butler of Naples, Fla.; three sisters, Chloe Alfred of Arnoldsburg, Flava Fisher of Cottageville, and Floda Dulaney of Naples; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Eliza E. and Arminda Starcher Anderson. He retired from Carbon Carbide Co., Alloy. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Kingsbury Anderson; two daughters, Hazeline Anderson of Spencer and Wilma Jean Monroe of Middlebourne; three brothers, Shade Anderson of White Sulpher Springs, Woodrow W. Anderson of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Paul Anderson of Dexter, Ohio; two sisters, Erma Kiplinger of Barberton, Ohio, and Hettie Wallace of Akron, Ohio; and four grandchildren. Bartlett, 71, of Big Bend, died Saturday, Mar. 19, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. He was born in Dekalb, Gilmer County, a son of the late Rev. N. H. and Daisy Garton Bartlett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 71st Air Engineer Squadron in the Pacific Theater. He was a former employee of Glen L. Martin Co., Baltimore, Md., and served as an associate at Holbert Store Co., Big Bend, for 23 years. He was former director of the Calhoun County Community Action Association and a past president and 11-year member of the Calhoun County Board of Education. He was on the board of directors for Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center and belonged to Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, of Grantsville, Charleston Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies and Nemesis Temple of Parkersburg. He belonged to Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, Big Bend, where he served on the board of deacons for 38 years, was a Sunday School teacher for 47 years and served as church clerk. He was a youth advisor for the Little Kanawha Association of American Baptist Churches for three years and a member of the Giddeons International. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Holbert Bartlett; one son, Tom Bartlett of Spencer; one daughter, Karen Altizer of Sand Ridge; four brothers, William E. Bartlett of Huntington, Ray Bartlett of Big Springs, Eugene P. Bartlett of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Harley Bartlett of Logan; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. Bennett, 94, of Crofton, Md., formerly of Calhoun County, died Friday, Jan. 14, 1994, at Crofton Convalescent Center, after an extended illness. He was born in West Virginia, and moved to Baltimore, Md., in 1942. He moved to Glen Burnie, Md., in 1989, and later to Crofton in 1992. He retired in 1964 from Bethlehem Steel after 22 years of service, and was interested in radio, television, and automobile repair. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church of Baltimore County, Md., and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Surviving are one daughter, Doris Franklin of Severna Park, Md.; one sister Golda Daniels of Johnson City, Tenn.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sons, Alfred E. Bennett and Robert F. Bennett; five sisters, Lettie Mitchell, Bina Hosey, Anna Critchfield, Lula Graziano, and Mae Rutledge; and eight brothers, Good Bennett, Owen Bennett, Jason Bennett, Lee Ray Bennett, Alva Bennett, Francis Bennett, Victor Glenn Bennett, and William Ray Bennett. He was retired from Monarch Rubber Co., Spencer. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late James S. and Almeda Lynch Boatright. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. He was a driller in the oil fields, worked for Weirton Steel for many years, and owned and operated Town Tavern, Pennsboro. Surviving are one son, Glen Boatright of Pennsboro; one daughter, Vonetta Lanham of Pennsboro; two sisters, Ethel Harris and Bethel O'Brien, both of Barberton, Ohio; and one grandson. Crew, H.H.D., 74, of Pennsboro, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 1994, at his resident after a brief illness. He was born in Reedy, a son of the late Delbert L. and Virginia M. Vandal Crew. He was a 1938 graduate of Wirt County High School, attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and Glenville State College. He graduated from West Liberty in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree in education, and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Georgia. He serviced the Methodist Protestant Church and later the United Methodist Annual Conference of West Virginia for 42-1/2 years. His ministerial service began at Richardsonville Charge in Calhoun County, and encompassed 58 separate churches throughout the state, including Knotts Memorial Methodist Church, Grantsville. He was the first minister to serve the combined First United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church of Pennsboro, which he served for seven years and was later voted pastor emeritus for life by both churches. He retired in 1981, last serving Aldersgate-Hope United Methodist Church, Wheeling. After retirement he was involved in many fraternal and community organizations, including Harmony Lodge 59 AF&AM, O'Dell S. Long Chapter 25, RAM, where he served as past high priest, Pennsboro Commandary 20, Knights Templar, where he was past prelate and past commander, and Order of Eastern Star, Chap. 26, all of Pennsboro, and Ritchie County Ministerial Association. She was born at Orma, daughter of George E. and Mary (Lambert) Sampson and attended schools in Calhoun County. In May 1993, she graduated as an R.N. from Kent State University. She was employed at Hoover Co. in North Canton and had served as a union representative for I.B.E.W. Local No. 1985 for many years. She was a licensed real estate agent. She is survived by two sons, Micah Dean Arnold and Brian Arnold, both of Massillon; three grandchildren; mother, Mary Sampson of Massillon; three sisters, Carol Majoras of Elyria, Jean Sampson and Margaret McClain, both of Massillon; sister-in-law, Janetta Sampson of Orma; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, many of which reside in Calhoun County. Her husband, Jack Fink, was killed in an auto accident on May 14, 1994, while on route to Lois' doctor at Cleveland Clinic. She received minor injuries in that accident. HALL, RELDA - See Hersman, Relda. 10/13/1994 HAMILTON, WILSON PAGE Wilson Page Hamilton, formerly of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1994, at Sycamore Hospital, Miamisburg, Ohio. He was the son of John M. and Minnie Cook Hamilton of Grantsville. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1926, and attended Glenville Normal School. After teaching school in Logan County, he entered West Virginia University and completed a five year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in 1934. In 1936 he graduated from University of Louisville with an MD degree. After internship, Dr. Hamilton practiced medicine in Grantsville for a year, during which he married Marjorie Avera of Germantown, Ohio. He left Grantsville and became public health medical officer of Marshall County and acted in the same capacity in Logan County for a short time. He entered Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and received an MDH degree. He returned to Logan County as public health officer until 1943, when he entered private practice in Chapmanville and remained there until his retirement in 1969. After five years in Florida, Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton returned to Germantown where Mrs. Hamilton died Feb. 18, 1984. He is survived by a daughter, Susan, who married Ed Bobbs and lives in Jackson, Ill.; a son, James Page Hamilton, who retired from the Air Force as a Colonel in 1989; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. 2/10/1994 HANEY, MARY F.
