He was born in Pike County, Ky., the son of Lee and Roxie Kenney Adkins. He was a forklift operator and a member of Elmira Baptist Church. Surviving are one sister, Reable Charles of Wadsworth, Ohio; and three brothers, Mack Adkins, Elmer Adkins and Robert Adkins, all of Akron; and several relatives in Calhoun County. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Mark Gerwig officiating, and burial in King Cemetery, Nicut. 12/21/1995 ALLEN, CLYDE Clyde Allen, 86, of Elizabeth, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Fielden and Almira Bailey Allen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a former oil field worker, and had retired from West Virginia Dept. of Highways. He was a member of the VFW. Surviving are one son, Mark Basnett of Elizabeth; and one sister, Estel Powell of Akron, Ohio. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Snyder Chapel Church Cemetery, Annamoriah. 9/21/1995 ALLEN, HERMAN GLEN Herman Glen Allen, 68, of Hurricane, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1995, at Putnam General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Lincoln County, a son of the late Josh and Mary Ethel Hughes Allen. He was a retired coal miner and had been employed by Appalachian Power Co. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America. Surviving are his wife, Gypsy M. Tanner Allen; three sons, Jerry Allen of Sod, Larry Allen and Dale Allen, both of Yawkey; three daughters, Lisa Adams and Virginia Parsons, both of Hurricane, and Nathaniel Allen of Yawkey; two brothers, Josh Allen, Jr., of Sod and Nathaniel Allen of Jonesville, Mich.; one sister, Doris Pryor of Muncey, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was born at Orma, a daughter of the late P. M. and Willa Bourne McCune. She was a homemaker. Surviving are one son, Roger L. Allen of Grantsville; two daughters, Murlene Ferrebee of Grantsville and Wanda Cain of Cleveland; three brothers, Bruce McCune and Norville McCune, both of Orma, and Ralph McCune of Rutland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Allen, in 1973; one son, Lowell Allen; one daughter, Kathleen Parsons; and two brothers, Dowe McCune and Vance McCune. Anderson, 76, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 1995, in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late William T. Anderson and Jessie Lynch Anderson. He was manager of F.C. Cook, served in the 4th Armored Division in World War II, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1937. He was wounded in Germany in 1945 and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Buckhannon Lions Club, Franklin Lodge No. 7, AF&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Retired Officers Association, and Purple Heart Association. He was a 1951 graduate of W.Va. Wesleyan College and a charter member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jean Buchanan Anderson; two daughters, Susan Hansen of Buckhannon and Barbara Merlo of Leavenworth, Kan.; one son, William T. Anderson of Somerville, N.J.; two brothers, A.G. Anderson of Spencer and Dan Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three granddaughters, Amy Hansen of Buckhannon, Katie Anderson of Somerville; and Emma Merlo of Leavenworth; and two grandsons, Jon Hansen of Buckhannon and Andy Merlo of Leavenworth. Details of the services were not available. 11/9/1995 ANDERSON, RICHARD LEE Richard Lee Anderson, 53, of Monroe Township, Oh., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Erie, Pa., after a lengthy illness. He was born in Spencer, the son of William and Zanna Bailey Anderson. He had been an Ashtabula resident since 1943, and had lived in Conneaut for the last five years. He was employed as a truck driver with Anderson Enterprizes, retiring in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and had attended Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Moose Lodge #472, Eagles F.O.E. lodges #1463 in Ashtabula and #408 in Conneaut. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Judith English Anderson, whom he married July 25, 1981; a sister, Berna-dine Fanning of Ashtabula; a brother, Gene Anderson of Ashtabula; five stepsons, William Dix of Monroe Township, David Dix of Kingsville, Ohio; Donald Dix of Concord, N.H., and Dennis and James Dix of Ashtabula; six stepgrandchildren; and a number of more distant relatives in Calhoun County. Burial was in Kelloggsville Cemetery. 4/27/1995 ANDERSON, STEVEN D. Steven D. Anderson, 28, of Parkersburg, died Monday, April 17, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Lake County, Ohio, a son of Garry and Patricia Leggett Anderson of Southington, Ohio. He was a 1986 graduate of Southington Chalker High School, where he excelled in football, and was a former cement finisher for M&S Concrete of Parkersburg. He resided in Parkersburg since 1986, and attended New Live Full Gospel Church, Elizabeth. Surviving in addition to his parents are one son, Zachary Dwayne Anderson of Parkersburg; one daughter, Stephanie Dawn Anderson of Parkersburg; one brother, Garry Michael Anderson of Southington; one sister, Melissa Renee Cunningham of Parkersburg; one nephew, Matthew Cunningham of Parkersburg; his fiancee, Patty Hughes of Parkersburg; and several aunts and uncles. He was born in Highland, Ritchie County, the son of the late Harvey and Daisy Atkinson. He was an accomplished poet, and was a retired supervisor from Consolidated Gas Co., Seth, with 35 years of service. He also worked several years in Calhoun County at Cabot Station, Richardson Station and Minnora Station. He was a former member of Civilian Conservation Organization and a former forest ranger in charge of Blue Bend State Park. Surviving are two sons, Roland "Bud" Atkinson of Fort Myers, Fla., and Douglas R. Atkinson of Charleston; a daughter, Kathryn "Kit" Cantley of Seth; a sister, Edna Kight of Grantsville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was born in Milo, a son of the late Albert J. and Mary Jane Sampson Bailey. He was a retired farmer and a lifelong Calhoun County resident. He attended Milo United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Parkersburg Restaurant Supply, having worked in maintenance. Gerald L. "Gary" Bourne, 62, of Glenville, died Friday, Feb. 24, 1995, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, after a three-week illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio, a son of Pauline Bourne Kelley of White Oaks, N.C., and the late Donley Bourne. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a conservation officer with the rank of sergeant who served Gilmer, Roane, and Calhoun counties for 32 years. He was a member of Scottish Rite and Masonic Lodge, both of Clarksburg, and National Rifle Association. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Iris Mace Bourne; a daughter, Pam O'Brien of Spencer; and a brother, Carrol L. Bourne of Chandler, Ariz. She attended Summit Valley United Methodist Church, had been a member of Seventh Street U.M. Church, and was a member of King's Helpers Class at Seventh Street U.M. Church. She served as a coordinator of the March of Dimes in New York and in Grantsville, having moved there in 1954. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late John M. and Minnie Cook Hamilton. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Harvard Medical School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medical officer in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and cluster, and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He established his medical practice in 1930, practicing in St. Marys for more than 50 years, and was instrumental in establishing the blood bank in Pleasants County as a member of the Red Cross. He was a member of American Medical Association, West Virginia Medical Association, Parkersburg Academy of Medicine, St. Marys Kiwanis Club, and Eureka Masonic Lodge 40, AF&AM, Grantsville. He received the Silver Buffalo and Silver Beaver for his work in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of St. Marys Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Curtis and Cora Louise Holbert Blair. She was a 70-year resident of Belpre, and retired from Kesterson Launderers after 25 years of service. She was a former member of Belpre Rebekah Lodge and former member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, William E. Jackson, Sr.; three sons, William E. He was born near Leading Creek in Gilmer County, a son of the late John B. and Cornella Jane Burwell Jones. He was a retired educator, farmer and deputy assessor for Gilmer County. He served 12 years as a Gilmer County commissioner, and over 20 years as a West Virginia Soil Conservation District Supervisor. He was a member of Gilmer County Farm Bureau and Gilmer County Park & Recreation Commission, and a former member of Gilmer County ASCS. He was a member of Glenville First Baptist Church for over 70 years, having served as deacon. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Freeda Opal Woofter Jones; three daughters, Tonabell Turner of Parkersburg, Deronda Rickman of Williamstown and Wandalene Drake of Glenville; two sons, Lyndall Jones of Parkersburg and Randall C. Kalman of Bowie, Md., a retired military band musician, died Monday, June 12, 1995, at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. He was a former resident of North Olmsted, Ohio, and the son of the late Frank and Barbara B. Kalman. He studied at Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and retired from U.S. Marine Corps Band with 31 years of service. He played the bassoon and served with the Bicentennial Band for three years. During retirement, he performed many public service duties for his community and Church of the Nazarene, College Park, Md. He most recently drove a school bus for Prince George's County. He is survived by his wife, Leora; two daughters, Kathryn Burkhardt and Clara Minnick; one son, SPC Owen David Kalman, a chaplain assistant with the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. McNair, Va.; three grandchildren, Kayla, Chelsea and Lauren; and one sister, Margaret Sik of Greenville, S.C. His wife, the former Leora Mae Palmer, graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1952 and was employed with the FBI, Washington, D.C., for several years.
