LOIS CAROL BABITZKE
Lois Carol Babitzke, 64, of Tucson, Ariz., died Thursday, Apr. 17, 2003.
She was born in Parkersburg, the daughter of the late Donald Fred and Mary Ruth McDonald Witt. She graduated from Calhoun County High School and West Virginia University and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1962. She served in Texas, Alaska, Southeast Asia and Arizona as a personnel offic6r, and retired as a Major in November, 1989.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Babitzke, whom she married on Oct. 5, 1963; two step-sons, Edward Babitzke of Sioux City, Ia., and Ricky Babitzke of East Peoria, Ill.; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one brother, Byron Witt of Morgantown.
Services were held at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery: with Rev. Les Hall officiating and military honors by Military Detail of Altus Air Force Base.

Nellie Backus, 96, of Vienna, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at St. Joseph's
Hospital.
She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Sanford and Rose Lee
Stanley Collins. She was a homemaker and a member of Briscoe Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Howard David Backus of Vienna; two daughters, Violet Tant
of Parkersburg and Loretta Ankrom of Belleville; 11 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Backus; three brothers, Emry,
Archie and Harry Collins; three sisters, Mary Lesson, Toppie Woodring and Goldie
Hill; and one granddaughter, Nellie Jane Tant.
Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Robert May
officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery North.

Geneva Edith Badgett, 84, of Nobe, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at home.
She was born at Minnora, the daughter of the late Calvin Spencer and Grace Bailey Jarvis.
She was a member of Milo Church.
Surviving are six sons, Ronald Badgett of Leatherbark, Kenith Badgett of Orma, Shirly Badgett of Big Springs, Charter Bee and Charles Badgett, both of Chloe, and Danny Badgett of Nobe; four sisters, Rilma Chandler of South Carolina, Nell Deweese of Spencer, Bonnie Ellison of Orma and Madeline Hardway of Cheylan; four brothers, Carl and Gary Jarvis, both of Orma, and Bill and Charter Jarvis, both of Chloe; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charter Badgett in 1982; three brothers, Cecil, Paris Bruce and Curt Jarvis; and four sisters, Winna Mae Jarvis, Dessie Jett, Olive Grace Deweese and Maysel Badgett Stalnaker.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carroll McCauley and Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial was in Clark Jarvis Cemetery, Chloe.

JIMMY BAIL
Jimmy O. Bail, 70, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Mar. 18, 2004, at his home.
He was born in Clay, the son of the late Orvan S. Bail and Berniece Young Bail. He was a pilot and civil engineer and Retired Lt. Colonel with 33 years service in the 167th Air Lift Wing of the W.Va. Air National Guard. He had the distinction of being the last active duty pilot of the P51 Mustang Airplane.
He was a Shriner and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of BPOE 778, Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of the Moose, Isaac Walton Club, and president of the Dirty Dozen Social Club, Inc. He was a member of Young Memorial Methodist Church, Queen Shoals.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Martha Gainer Bail; two daughters, Kimberly B. Bail and Kelly Bail Manor; six grand-children; sister-in-law, Bernice Gainer Yoke Hardman and husband James; niece, Jennifer Yoke Morris and husband Richard; and grand niece and nephew, Elizabeth J. Morris and Daniel M. Morris and wife Amanda.
Military memorial services were held in Inwood and burial was on the family farm at Queen Shoals.

Nellie Bailess, 93, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at home.
She was the daughter of the late Oak and Clara Ferrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Bob Bailess and wife Julia of Briston, Va.; five daughters, Geraldine Diehl of North Olmstead, Ohio, Mary Collins of Mantua, Ohio, Janet Orozco and husband Bob of Laguna Hills, Calif., Nancy Taylor of Grantsville and Linda Blankenship and husband Neil of Grantsville; one brother, Glen Ferrell of Davisville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest O. Bailess; one sister; and four brothers.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Broomstick Cemetery.

DR. BENJAMIN BAILEY
Dr. Benjamin H. Bailey, 79, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born in Minnora, the son of the late Chloe Bailey. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1944 and obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1948 from Glenville State College. He taught in Wyoming County schools at Glen Rogers and Oceana. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1950-53 and remained in the U.S. Army Reserves for 33 years. He received his masters degree and doctorate degree in educational psychology from University of Florida, Gainesville, and joined the faculty of WVU in 1959, retiring as Emeritus Professor in 1996. He had a second career with the U.S. Army Reserves, obtaining a masters degree in military science from Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., teaching summers at the Defense Intelligence School, Ft. Bragg, N.C., and was commander of the 416th MI detachment in Morgantown for 11 years and the 470th Unit for four years. He retired as a colonel and received the Legion of Merit for his service in 1981.
He served as president’s ambassador for GSC for a number of years. A lifelong Democrat, he worked for John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV and James Sprouse during their campaigns for governor of West Virginia. He was a lifelong member of ROA, VFW, GSC Alumni, a member of Phi Delta Kappa Education Honorary and Morgantown Lions Club. He was a Methodist and former member of Drummond Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Betty Mirie Bailey; one brother, W. Scott Bailey of Minnora; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Cora Alice Bailey; two nephews; and one niece.
Services were held at Derings Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial was in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.

Beulah Macel Bailey, 87, of Nicut, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at the home of her sister.
She was the daughter of the late Elbert and Josephine Boone Brady. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are four brothers, Bernard Brady of Walker, Borden Brady of Methias and Blair and Brock Brady, both of Shock; two sisters, Bernice Rogers of Baltimore, Md., and Barbara Sauer of Orma; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry Bailey; one daughter, Linda Bailey Fisher; one son, Michael Bailey; and one brother, Blaine Brady.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Bailey Cemetery, Shock.

Charles M. "Jack" Bailey, 73, of Oceana, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in a Beckley
Hospital.
He was born at Beech, the son of the late Dave and Etta Clevenger Bailey. He was a
retired welder from H.N. Lawson Co., and a member of Joseph Baptist Church, Lynco,
and a resident of Wyoming County since 1968.
Surviving are his wife of 47 1/2 years, Merle Conley Bailey, and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Butler, and three half-brothers, Greeley
Bailey, Criss Hall and Dutch Hall.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Joseph Baptist Church, with Rev.
Lundy Daniels and Rev. Tom Milam officiating, and burial in Cooper Cemetery, Chloe.

Bailey; three daughters, Debra Anderson and Rebecca Beiry, both of Parkersburg, and Patricia Stephens of Wirt County; one son, Timothy Bailey of Parkersburg; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Davis of Grantsville and Coy Davis of Parkersburg; one sister, Bonnie Summerville of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

Don Bailey, 80, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Apr. 26, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Beech, the son of the late Paris and Lelia Gae Starcher Bailey. He retired from Union Carbide Co. after 23 years of service and was known on C.B. radio by his handle, "Millstone. He was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Long Bailey; two sons, Michael D. Bailey Parkersburg and D. Mark Bailey of Blumon, S.C.; one daughter, Barbara Gillespie of Mineral Wells; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Johnston of Mineral Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, infant Ocie Bailey and Denna Lott, and two brothers, Claude and Hubert Bailey.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 3 p.m., at Levitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Joe Bush officiating, and burial in Evergreen South Cemetery.

home.
He was the son of the late Reece and Plina Bailey. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Air Force and a machinist and welder.
Surviving are his wife, Mona Bailey; six sons, Herbert, Jimmie, Vernon and
Tommy, all of Columbus, Brian of Parma, Ohio, and Rick of Cincinnati, Ohio; one

John Scott Bailey, 52, of Bridgeport, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, of injuries
received in an automobile accident in Braxton County.
He was born in Minnora, the son of Scott and Edith Gae Bailey. He was a graduate
of Glenville State College with a degree in land surveying and was a member of
W.Va. Association of Land Surveyors and past president of the Harrison County
Chapter. He was a 19-year employee of MSES, Clarksburg, and former employee of
Consolidated Natural Gas. He was a member of National Rifle Association and
Fellowship Bible Church, Bridgeport.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of 30 years, Mary Kathryn
"Kathy" Hartshorn Bailey; three children, David Matthew Bailey, Shanna Kathleen
Bailey and Heather Jade Bailey, all at home; three sisters, Sharon Groves of
Orrville, Ohio, Martha "Marty" Park of Minnora and Joyce Meek of Wilmore, Ken.;
and several nieces and nephews.

She was born at Chloe, the daughter of the late Samuel B. and Monnie Burns Conley.
She had worked as secretary and manager at Harrison's Kitchen Sales, Logan. She was a member of Joseph's Baptist Church, Oceana, and attended Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Winding Road.
Surviving are one sister, Leona Sears of Chloe; one brother, Robert Lee Conley of Chloe; and niece and honorary daughter, Dottie Bailey of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. "Jack" Bailey; one sister, Norma Sears; and one brother, Harland Ray Conley.
Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Cooper Cemetery, Chloe.

He was born at Minnora, the son of the late George and Anna Siers Bailey. He was
a teamster, oil field worker and farmer, and was a Protestant.
Surviving are three sons, Basil Bailey of Congress, Ohio, Hollie Bailey of
Milton and Delmar Bailey of Minnora; one daughter, Mrs. Myrl Bailey of Newton;
16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mae Badgett Bailey, in 1985; four infant

R. Aston of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Josephine Westfall of Spencer; 11

Wetzel Lee Baker, 77, of Big Springs, died Saturday, Apr. 7, 2007, at his home.
He was born in West Hamlin, the son of the late John H. and Vera McClellan Baker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an inspector for TRW Corp. for 35 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Carma Morris of Orwell, Ohio, and Rose Marie Miller and Stacey Ludington, both of Rittman, Ohio; one son, Timothy Baker of Rittman; four stepsons, Gilford Vanhoose of Big Springs, Arthur Vanhoose and Keith Ross, both of Kentucky, and David Amburgey of Ohio; and one step-daughter, Peggy Lopez of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Matreva Baker in 1988.

Fred Ball, 89, of Beckley, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in a Beckley care center.
He was born at Pine Creek, the son of the late Norvel Leo and Mary Rebecca Propst Ball.
He was retired from Pinecrest Hospital with 20 years of service and was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Union Hall Road, Beckley. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sibyl Louise Linton Ball; four nieces, Donna Starcher of Spencer, Bonetta Lanham of Parottsville, Tenn., Shirley Finklebinder of Youngstown, Ohio, and Bonnie Brown of Grantsville; and two nephews, Danny Carter and David Carter, both of Spencer.

Gerald “Russell” Ball of Grantsville died Friday, July 2, 2004, after a battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Georgia Stump and James Wesley Ball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1947-49. He was co-founder and vice president of Telecon, Inc. and Dynacast, Streetsboro, Ohio, and retired from Johnson and Johnson in 1986.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Shirley Ball; four daughters, Margaret Hildreth, Debbie Brymer, Georgia Kasse and Melissa Ball; one son, James Ball; three step-children, Scott Long, Sandy McColligan and Steve Long; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, French Stump of Stumptown; three sisters, Florence Meadows, Geraldine Hupp of Grantsville and Virginia Bland of Libby, Montana; and devoted friend, Nub Marks.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Russell Ball, Jr.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation was also scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Geraldine (Jerry) Ball, 92, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Apr. 27, 2006, at Ohio Valley Health Care, Parkersburg.
She was the daughter of the late Everette and Mae Miller. She was a member of Knotts United Methodist Church, Grantsville, and former member of Humphreys U.M. Church, Sissonville. She was a member of WSCS women's group for years and served as a representative to the annual conference at Buckhannon and participated in Spiritual Life Retreat, Jackson's Mill.
Surviving are two sons, Dallas Ray (Dick) Ball of Cairo and Robert Lee (Bob) Ball of Sissonville; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manard Ball; one son, Joseph Ball; one sister, Betty Gainer; and one brother, Gibb Miller.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mary Zimmer officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery, near Grantsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter Ball; two brothers, Ronzel and Charles Summers; and one sister, Ulinee Crawford.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mary Zimmer officiating, and burial in Bethlehem Cemetery, near Grantsville. Visitation was scheduled two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sheila Kay Ball, 55, of Elizabeth died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at her residence after a battle with cancer.
She was born in Kanawha County, the daughter of the late Hoy and Myrtle Fields Nichols. She was a 1967 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School and 1971 graduate of Glenville State College. She was employed as a teacher with Wirt County board of education for 33 years and had retired at the end of the school year. She was a member of Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma society.
Surviving are her husband, Larry Ball, whom she married June 25, 1975; sister-in-law and caregiver, Joyce Fitzwater; one niece, Trisha Triplett; and one nephew, Dustin Fitzwater.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Jarrell “Jerry” Wayne Nichols.
Services were held at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Dwight Goff officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery, near Grantsville.

Doyle S. Ballengee, 80, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born in Braxton County, the son of the late French S. and Elva Jane McMorrow Ballengee. He was retired from Babcock and Wilcox Co., Barberton, Ohio, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville, and had a prison ministry in many communities for those who were incarcerated.
Surviving are one son, Carl Ballengee of Millstone; one daughter, Cheri Pittman of Grantsville; two brothers, Garland Ballengee of Duck and Lewis Ballengee of Vienna; one sister, Virginia McCoy of Brenham, Tex.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Reda E. Ballengee.
Services were held at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. John Powell and Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Perry James Cemetery, Frametown.

Retha M. "Peggy" Rogers Bancroft, 87, died Wednesday, Mar. 21, 2007, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was the daughter of the late Okey and Cleo Rogers of Shock. She was a member of Church of Christ and had 20 years of service to clients in the Senior Companion Program. She was known for playing mountain, folk and country music.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana Miller of Shock and Edna Marie Frymier of Newberne; one son, Raymond Charles Bancroft, Jr., of York, Pa.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard Rogers of Martin, Tenn., Randolph Rogers of Dandridge, Tenn., and Rexie Rogers of Tampa, Fla.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Ralph Rogers; one sister, Ruth Manz; one child; and infant son; and one grandson.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Evangelist Vernon Kerns officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery, Shock.

He was the son of the late Billy E. and Marva Lucille "Ruby" Welch Barker. He was a Christian and attended Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church and Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of Grantsville Volunteer Fire Dept., W.Va. Trappers and Engineers Association, and Moose Lodge #1118.
Surviving are several uncles, aunts and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elijah Barker and Hazel Wyant Barker, and maternal grandparents, William Clarence and Nellie Whipkey Welch.

She was the daughter of Scott P. and Judith A. Muskey Yost of Big Springs and was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, where she was a member of the marching band flag corps for two years. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she served as a hospital corpsman, and was active in 4-H.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Israel John Barrickman of Jacksonville, N.C.; one son, Christopher A. Barrickman of Canton, Ohio; one daughter, Autumn Ann Barrickman of Big Springs; one brother, Travis Scott Yost of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; paternal grandparents, Ken and Bernita Yost; maternal grandfather, Michael Muskey, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mildred Muskey.

She was active with Gihon Homemakers Club and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.

She was of the opinion that age was irrelevant. She was a owner of the former Top of the Hill Tavern, near Grantsville, was employed as a waitress at Rainbow Restaurant and 3-D Restaurant and as a bartender at Tanner Creek Bar and Grantsville VFW Post 5959. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5959.
Surviving are one son, Billy "Biff" Barker of Grantsville; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Guy F. Boggs, Sr., of Five Forks and Frank and Kate Barker, Harry D. and Vergie Barker and Francis Lucille and Junior Bauers, all of Smithville; one niece, Myra West of Parkersburg; two nephews, Guy F. Boggs, Jr., of Vienna and Douglas A. Boggs of Five Forks; four great-nieces, Amber and Brianna Boggs of Vienna, Misty Boggs of Huntington and Kayla Boggs of Grantsville; and two great-nephews, Nathan Boggs of Vienna and Kirk Stump of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Barker, in 1981, and one sister, Leona Dell Welsh Boggs.

He was born in Grantsville, the son of the late Thomas D. Barker, Sr., and Opal Sturm Summers. He retired from the Army after 25 years of service and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, three Overseas Service Bars, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and Marksman medals. He was a member of American Legion Post 0764, Hanover, Ohio, life-member of VFW Grantsville, member of Parkersburg Moose Lodge 1118, Elks Lodge of Cripple Creek, Colo., Confederate Veterans of America, Huntington Druids Club of Newark, Grantsville IOOF, In Country Vietnam Veterans, Tempe, Ariz., Vietnam Veterans of America in which he was Ohio treasurer, and National Rifle Association. He was owner of Tom's Liquor Store and Fountain Motel, Fountain, Colo., and a former member of Fountain City Council.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Edgar and Elma Barr Barnes. Clyde was a graduate of West Virginia Tech and a U.S. Army veteran with the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He retired from Wood County Schools, where he had been a teacher for 36 years.
Surviving are his son, Larry Barnes; four grandchildren, Michelle, Cassie, Allan and Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Halle; and one brother, Ralph Barnes of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lillian Mae Hayhurst Barnes; one sister, Geraldine Barnes; and two brothers, Thorl Barnes and William Barnes.

Marjorie J. Barnett, 75, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Violet Ball Bush. She was a 1943 graduate of Parkersburg High School, 1946 graduate of Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and a graduate of Ohio State University School of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a family planning nurse practitioner. After serving in the Army Nurses Corp during World War II, she was an instructor at CCNH School of Nursing from 1958-1961. After working as a private duty nurse and as a staff nurse at CCMH for many years, she then served as Home Health Care coordinator at CCMH prior to retiring from Planned Parenthood in 1986. She was a past elder and youth leader at Beechwood Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynelle C. Barnett of Columbus, Ohio, and Andrea Lee Brown of Parkersburg; two sons, Joseph Barnett of Parkersburg and Benjamin Barnett of Coolville, Ohio; one sister, Yvonne Bush White of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry R. Barnett; one brother; and two sisters.

She was born in Pennsboro, the daughter of the late Elias Palmer and Minnie May Cottrill Hickman.
She was a member of First Apostolic Church, Belpre, Ohio, and formerly worked for the Pleasants County assessor's office. She had taught Sunday School.
Surviving are two daughters, Patty Gorman and husband Darrell of St. Marys and Nelia McConahy and husband Bill of Vienna; one son, Steve Barnhart and wife Faye of Grantsville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, James P. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late George W. and Estella P. Raybuck Dye. She retired in 1980 from General Electric, Co., New Concord, Ohio. She was a member of Frazeyburg Senior Citizens and Richvale Grange.
Surviving are two daughters, Darliss Mock of Frazeyburg and Donna Melrose of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Cokie Turner of Zanesville, Ohio; and Everett Dye of Big Springs; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Barr, on July 19, 1964; one son, James Everette Barr; three sisters; and five brothers.
Services were held at Frazeyburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial was in Presbyterian Cemetery, Norwich, Ohio.

Faye Thomas Barr, 93, of Glenville, died Saturday, Mar. 8, 2008, at SunBridge Care Center, Salem.
She was born in Marion County, the daughter of the late S.K. and Rose Haggerty Thomas.
She retired in 1991 with 21 years of service as a school teacher in Calhoun County. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Glenville.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary Ailes of Grantsville and Phoebe B. Dailey of Nicholasville, Ky.; one son, James T. Barr of New Milton; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Barr, and one daughter, Susan Griffin.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Glenville, with Rev. Gerald Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Mary Ann Barrows, 84, of The Woods of Cedar Run, Camp Hill, Pa., died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Manor Care, Carlisle, Pa.
She was born in Bluefield, the daughter of the late Jacob and Daisy Reese Myer. She was former owner and retired as editor of The Calhoun Chronicle and was a member of Calhoun County Historical Society and Calhoun-Gilmer Writers Guild.
Surviving are one son, David O. Barrows of Camp Hill; one sister, Bes Dunning of Norfolk, Va.; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Barrows of Cannonsburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin J. Barrows.
Memorial services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Private burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Marguerite Basnett, 78, of Parkersburg, formerly of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.
She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie Mae Stevens Williams. She retired from B.F. Goodrich in 1993 after 30 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters, Georgia Stalnaker and husband Bob of Grantsville and Shirley Basnett of Parkersburg; one grandson, Michael Stalnaker of Coolville, Ohio; one special great-granddaughter, Kateelynn Stalnaker of Coolville; one brother, Bill Williams of Doylestown, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and two special family friends, Phyllis Maze and Charlie Whipkey, both of Grantsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hale J. Basnett, in October, 1990; three brothers, Pratt, Lorin and Donald Williams; and three sisters, Delores Deimeter, Euthel Gibson and Grace Dufore.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Big Bend Cemetery.

ROBERT BASNETT
Robert Basnett, 79, of Big Bend, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late James and Virginia Starcher Basnett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was captured by the Germans at the Battle-of-the-Bulge and was held as a prisoner of war in a German prison camp from Dec. 31, 1944, until Apr. 15, 1945.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Kerby Basnett; three sons, Robert Basnett, Jr., and James Lee Basnett, both of Morgantown, N.C., and Terry Basnett of Zebulon, N.C.; three daughters, Judith Ann Meadows and Brenda Radabaugh, both of Big Springs, and Debra Basnett of Big Bend; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Barry Miller and Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial was in Bryner Chapel Cemetery, near Mt. Zion.

Gary Michael Bates, 15, of Big Springs, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, Jan. 15, 1996.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Jeffery C. Richards of Big Springs and Robin Bates Greer of Newton Falls, Ohio. He was a ninth grade student at Calhoun County High School.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his step-father, Coolidge Greer of Newton Falls; three sisters, Tammy Jo Richards and Heather Ann Richards, both of Big Springs, and Amy Lynn Bates of Newton Falls; one brother, Jeffery C. Richards II of Big Springs; paternal grandmother, Glenna Richards of Big Springs; and maternal grandmother, Rosalie Bates of Newton Falls.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jaramie Bates.
Services were held at Stump Funeral home, Grantsville, wtih Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Big Springs Cemetery.

She was a Marine Corps veteran and a retired supervisor for U.S. Dept. of Defense, Navy Depot, Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Army Depot, New Cumberland, Pa. She was a former employee of Spencer Hospital, Roane County clerk's office, and Police Records Center, Mechanicsburg. She was a member of Wetzel Chapter #27, Order of Eastern Star, Spencer.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, James D. "Jim" Batten; two daughters, Robin Batten of Spencer and Jourali "Jodi" Smith of Lincolnton, N.C.; one foster daughter, Karen Boggs of Spencer; two sons, Ralph M. He was born on Steer Run, Gilmer County, the son of Louise Whitesel Beall and the late Doyl Beall. He was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Normantown, in 1966 and retired from W.Va. Dept. of Highways with 26 years of service.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Sandra Hevener, whom he married in 1959; three children, Kimberly Beall Lowther, Richard Beall and Charles Beall; six grandchildren; 'one step-grandson; two sisters, Zeta Jean Mohr and Evonne Mohr; and three brothers, Wendel Beall, David Beall and Doyl Junior Beall.

Kenneth Rudell Beard, 74, of Smithville, died Saturday, Mar. 17, 2007, at Clarksburg.
He was born at Calvert City, Ky., the son of the late Rudy H. and Catherine Pauline Davis Beard. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a former deputy sheriff of Pinal County, Ariz., owner of Barrel Drive In, Mesa, Ariz., welder on high pressure piping, and involved with real estate sales. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville, and South Side Baptist Church, Harrisville, where he was adult Sunday School teacher and leader of the tent ministry.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Parks Beard; one son, Kenneth Bradley Beard of Wartrace, Tenn.; one brother, James L. Beard of Benton, Ky.; two sisters, Barbara A. Vasseur of Calvert City and Carolyn L. Kirk of Paducah, Ky.; three grandchildren, Michael Jason Roe (raised as a son), Lauren Beard and Matthew Bradley Beard; seven nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Katherine Roe.
Special memorial service was held at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Pastor Mike Worf officiating. A celebration of his life was held at South Side Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Kirby officiating.

James Howard Beecher, 71, of Grantsville, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born in Apollo, Pa., the son of Lynn and Bessie Kepple Beecher. He retired from Beecher Drilling Co. after more than 40 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 5959, where he served as commander for 11 years. He was also a volunteer driver for the V.A. Medical Center's shuttle van.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marilyn of Grantsville; one son Stevan of Grantsville; three daughters, Janis Ritchie and Andrea Fitzwater, both of Summersville, and Robin Goodwin of Germantown, Md.; seven grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. Beecher, and one sister, Virginia Prusack.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orton and Herbert Mollohan, and two sisters, Louise Sherwood and Tressie Moore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Bell, in 1960, and one brother, Andrew Stemple.

He was the son of the late Carl and Lottie Belt. He served in the Armed Forces from 1949-1952 during the Korean War. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 18, VFW 10188, and American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Nicholas Belt; children, Jennifer Albert, Raymond C. Belt, Jr., and Tina Neal; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marlene Lewis and Jean Bush.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Richards.

She retired from Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital where she was a cook. She was a Christian.

Mrs. Ellen R. Bennett, 80, of Grantsville died at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg Tuesday, following a short illness. She was the daughter of William & Sara Hambric, Braxton County, where she was born. She spent the greater part of her life in the Grantsville community, where she was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by seven sons; O. G. Bennett, Renovo, Pa.; Lee and Owen of Akron, O.; Noah of Baltimore; Alva, of Weston; Glen whose address is unknown and Ray, Staten, W. Va. Also three daughters, Mrs. Bina Hosey, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Goldie Daniels of Akron, O.; Miss Lulu Bennett, at home; three stepchildren, Mrs. Lettie Mitchell, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Anna Critchfield, Richwood, and James Bennett of Mt. Clare, W.Va., also one sister, Mrs. Bertha Allen of Rosedale; 35 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Rev. James Francis Bennett, one daughter, Mary Susie, and one son, Jason J., preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held at the Bethlehem Baptist church at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the body to lie in state at the Stump Funeral home at Grantsville, until that time.
The Rev. B. P. O. Van-Horn will read the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be the following grandsons Harold and Eugene Bennett, Richard Daniels, Paul and Lorrin Hosey and Lewis Allen.

Rev. James Francis Bennett, 82, died Tuesday at his home at Staten after a lingering illness. He was born Feb 23, 1863, in Calhoun county, the son of the late William and Sarah Ann Wright Bennett.
Rev. Bennett was a Baptist minister for 40 years and a member of the Odd Fellow lodge in Grantsville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Hamric Bennett and 13 children, James Bennett of Clarksburg, Mrs. Anna Critchfield of Richwood, Mrs. Lettie Mitchell of Washington, D.C., O. G. Bennett of Grantsville, Mrs. Bina Hosey of Grantsville, Mrs. Golda Daniels, Lee Bennett, and Owen Bennett of Akron; Glen Bennett of Cleveland, Ohio, Alva Bennett of Weston. Miss Ludia (Lulu) Bennett and Ray Bennett at home; amd Noah Bennett of Baltimore; three sisters, Mrs. Adaline Miller of Clarksburg; Mrs. Jay Friend and Mrs. Reta Frame of Sutton.
Funeral services were held at the Bethlehem Baptist church Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. N. H. Bartlett officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Diamond --William "Bill" Betts, 75, of Diamond, died Thursday, Sept 19, 2002, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born June 5, 1927, in Grantsville, W. Va., he was the son of William Ray and Pearl (Cain) Betts. He had lived in Diamond since 1953.
Mr. Betts had been employed with Rockwell International in Newton Falls for 26 years, and later retired from Alside in Cuyahoga Falls.
Previously, he had been a volunteer firefighter for Palmyra Township.

He was born at Galloway, Barbour County, the son of the late Frank and Bessie Collins Bailey. He retired in 1985 from TRW Co., Euclid, as a machinist with 34 years of service. He attended Flemington High School and graduated from Calhoun County High School. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II with Co. I, 515th parachute regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a life member of VFW Post 4358, Willoughby Hills, Ohio, and a member of J.F.K. Senior Center, Eastlake.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Wilda Goff Billey; two daughters, Diana Facemyer of Painesville Township, Ohio, and Darla Quinn of Wyoming, Mich.; two sons, Dwight Billey of Willoughby and Dean Billey of Eastlake; three sisters, Dorothy Ford of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Clara Williams of Glenville and Jenny Hosey of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Billey and an infant Robert Billey; one sister, Sue Hansen; and one great-grandson, Sean Elliott.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Pastor Robert Nicholas officiating, and burial in Burnt House Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, after 9 a.m., at the funeral home.

Ermal Harris of Little Hocking, Ohio, and Mary Gum of New Fairfield, Conn.; one brother, Ray King of Lorain, Ohio; three sisters, Beulah Cottrill of Grantsville, Gay King of Cleveland, Ohio, and June Garcia of Lorain, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Paul G. Bishop, on Feb. 7, 1999; three brothers, Roscoe King, Doy King and Russell King; and one sister, Beryl King.

He went to diesel school in Tennessee and attended sheet metal school in Institute.
Surviving are two sisters, Margaret (Iwana) Stevens of Cleveland, Ohio, and Kathryn Ellyson of Fort Myers; one brother, Albert Black of Wewahitchka, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired from Ohio Brass with 40 years service as a millwright. He was a member of Sherman Church of Christ where he was an Elder Emeritus.
Surviving are his wife, Nina Mae Starcher Boatright; three sons, Claude "Larry" Boatright and Denis Paul Boatright, both of Barberton, Ohio, and Lonnie Joe Boatright of Canal Fulton, Ohio; one daughter, Luann Smith of Loganville, Ga.; five grandchildren; five brothers, Calvin Boatright of Grantsville, James Boatright of Manchester, Ohio, Odel Boatright of Barberton and Roy Boatright and Jack Boatright, both of Norton; and one sister, Paula Price of Barberton.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Davis Boatright; three sons, Glen and Jeffrey Boatright, both of Spencer, and Michael Boatright of Letart; three daughters, Donna Richards of Sistersville, Karen Hardway of Grantsville and Patricia Carbaugh of Matoka; one brother, Delbert Boatright of Ripley; three sisters, Lena Lewis of Lowell, Ohio, Irene Bates of Byesville, Ohio, and Oliva Nester of Charlotte, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Boatright, and two brothers.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Pastor Joe Sealy officiating, and burial in Sand Ridge Cemetery.

Catherine "Irene" Boatwright, 75, of Spencer, died Saturday, June 29, 1991, at CAMC Memorial Division, after a brief illness.
She was born in Oka, a daughter of the late John and Glenna Cottrell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oka Community Church, and Rebekah No. 8 lodge at Minnora.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James D. Boatwright; one son, James Glen Boatwright of Bickmore; two daughters, Mrs. Trecea Keen of Tariff, and Mrs. Robin VanMeter of Dixie; three sisters, Mrs. Aatha Messenger of Uniontown, Ohio, Mrs. Sylvia Metheney of Hartsville, Ohio, and Mrs. Dorma Conley of Looneyville; two brothers, Rev. Okey Cottrell of Ivydale, and Dorsey Cottrell of Spencer; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one sister.
Services were held at the Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer with Rev. Paul Parsons officiating. Burial was in the Clover Cemetery.

She was born in Creston, the daughter of the late Leonidas and Beulah McCoy. She was a member of Silver Creek Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Roy Boatright; three daughters, Linda Armbruster of Norton, Ohio, Vicki Smith of Clinton, Ohio, and Kelly Hetrick of Geneva, Ohio; seven grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Houchin and husband Grover of Minnora; and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald McCoy, and two sisters, Bonnie Sturm and Joan Davis.
Services were held at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home with Pat Mooney officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Opal Parsons Richards Boatright, 85, of Belpre, Ohio, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born at Millstone, the daughter of the late Okey and Mamie Groves Parsons. She graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1940 and lived in Ohio since 1943. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Cutler, Ohio.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverley Wilber of High Springs, Fla., and Patricia Richards of Belpre; one son, Christopher Richards of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cleo E. Richards, in 1983; her second husband, R.H. Boatright, in 2005; three brothers; and two sisters.
Services were held at Tatman Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating. Burial was in Centenary Cemetery.

Raymond Hildreth Boatright, 79, of Belpre, Ohio, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Ernest Boatright and Orva Kimble Boatright Schoolcraft. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a maintenance worker for American Power. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Cutler, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Opal Richards Boatright; one daughter, Debbie Boatright of Belpre; three sons, Greg Boatright of Chester, Ohio, Nathan Boatright of Rockledge, Fla., and Chris Richards of Florida; five sisters, Olena Hopkins and Leola Schellengburg, both of Akron, Ohio, Wanda Stone of South Carolina, Beverly Wilber of Florida and Patricia Richards of Belpre; and two brothers, Ford Boatright of Illinois and Howard Boatright of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Schartiger Boatright.
Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy, Ohio, with Rev. Herbert Grate officiating and burial in Chester Cemetery.

Brenton Boggs, 83, of Clothier, died May 20, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was born in Calhoun County and was retired from Hope Gas. He was a U.S. Army sergeant during World War II, serving in Europe. He was a member of VFW Post #5578, Madison, and member and ruling elder of Clothier Presbyterian Church. He was a 35-year member of Madison Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Lynch Boggs; one grandson, Bryan W. Boggs of Charleston; two great-granddaughters, Briana and Hannah Boggs of Charleston; one brother, Clyde Boggs of Pineville; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Laughlin of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by one son, William B. Boggs, and one brother, Charles Boggs.
Services were held at Handley Funeral Home, Danville. Burial was in Albert’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, Sand Ridge.

Bryce L. Boggs, 62, of Perkins, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, Ohio.
He was the son of the late Ernie and Gail Boggs. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed for 30 years at General Motors Fisher Body, Elyria, and retired 11 years ago from General Motors, Adrian, Mich., and moved to Perkins.
Surviving are four sisters, Betty Stiltner of Grafton, Ohio, Helen Melton of Gassaway, Joy Postalwait of Pulaski, Va., and Janice Knall of Stow, Ohio; and one brother, John Boggs of Perkins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Boggs, and one sister, Barbara Dages.
Services will be held Friday, noon, at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Normantown. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Charles E. Boggs, Jr., 52, of Grantsville, died Thursday, June 21, 2007.
He was born in Elyria, Ohio, the son of the late Charles E. and Patricia Umstead Boggs. He was a 1974 graduate of Calhoun County High School. He had worked with his father as a flagman for the state road. He did volunteer work for Muscular Dystrophy Association while in Tucson, Ariz.
Surviving are uncle and aunt, Bill and Donna Umstead of Mt. Zion; aunt, Mary Umstead of Mathias; uncle and aunt, Richard and Eugenia Husar of Mesa, Ariz.; uncle, Clyde Boggs of Pineville, and several cousins.
Memorial service and burial will be held Friday, July 6, 1 p.m., at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Dykstra of Byron, Mich., and Pam Thompson of Tallmadge, Ohio; one son, Don Boggs of Clinton, Ohio; two sisters, Susan Nutter and Marge Gherke of Grantsville; one brother, Mike Stump of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Eugene "Gene" Boggs, and one brother, Roxel Stump.
