MARVIN EARL WALDBESER

Marvin Earl Waldbeser, 78, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Oakland Veterans Administration, Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born in Morton, Ill., the son of the late Edward and Clara Schoenbein Waldbeser. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are one son, David Waldbeser of Martinez, Calif., and friend, Edna Kingsbury of Grantsville.

As per his request, his remains were cremated.

DONNIE FORREST WALDECK

Donnie Forrest Wilson Waldeck, died Monday, July 24, 2006, on her 90th birthday, in Aiken, S.C.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Bessie and George Spence Wilson. She was active in Broadway Baptist Church, Parkersburg, where she served on the deacon board and was active in Ladies Aid Society and social committee.

Surviving are one brother, Rolley J. Wilson of Parkersburg; three sisters, Bessie Ledsome of Reedy, Mary Starkey of Parkers-burg and Osa Fowler of Grantsville; two daughters, Judith W. Hammond and Mary Ann Troy, both of Aiken; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Broadway Baptist Church with Pastor Dwane Porter officiating. Burial was in Sandridge Cemetery.

JAMES WALLACE

James T. Wallace, 90, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Apr. 10, 2008, at Minnie Hamilton Health System. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of the late Henry and Mary Wallace.

He was a retired employee of U.S. Steel Co. He was a Mason and a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Gerry; on nephew, David Wallace of Kokomo, Ind.; one great-nephew, Jeremy Wallace of Princeton, N.J.; and one great-niece, Channie Mize of Delray Beach, Fla.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Vannoy and Rev. Tim Davis officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

ARLEY WARD

Arley E. Ward, 85, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late J. Hugh and Sarah Weaver Ward. He was a U.S. Army

veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific Theatre. He retired from General Motors Corp., Parma, Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Lula Lavoo (Jean) Singleton Ward; one son, Ronald Ward and wife Teresa of Grantsville; one stepdaughter, Glenda Berkheimer and husband Joseph of Oberlin, Ohio; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Liz, A.I., John and Walter Ward, and two sisters, Aldie Bernard and Georgie Stump.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Ward-Wilson Cemetery, near Grantsville.

IRENE METZ WAYNE

Irene Metz Wayne, 82, of Spencer, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Roane General Hospital.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Martin and Maude Boone Metz. She was retired from Kellwood Co. and was a member of Roane General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She attended Slate Methodist Church.

Surviving are one sister, Inez Carr of Mt. Zion; two brothers, Martin Metz, Jr., of Orma and Frank Metz of Chloe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H. Greeley Wayne, in 1991; four sisters, Gertrude Perkins, Pauline Farrar, Emma Siers and Anna Longfellow; and three brothers, Bruce, Clell and Thurl Metz.

Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Danny Whited and Rev. John Lowe officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.

Lila L. Wade, 71, of Weston, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Hiram and Scottie Sturm Kelley. She was a former employee of W.B. Gibson Co., Grantsville.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Wade; two sons, Jeffrey K. Wade and Gregory Wade, both of Weston; one daughter, Linda Cain of Heath, Ohio; and one sister, Carol Hosey of Grantsville.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to services.

EDANA GRIMM WAGER

Edana Grimm Wager, 37, of Grantsville, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born in Steubenville, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Patricia Shockley Grimm of Amsterdam, Ohio. She had been a long distance truck driver for nine years and was a motorcycle enthusiast, who, along with her husband, belonged to a Harley-Davidson Riding Club. She was a 1984 graduate of Springfield High School and was a Protestant.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Gary Wager; one son, Mitchell Edward Stonebraker of Steubenville; one daughter, Devan Adrian Dawn Stonebraker of the home; two step-children, Sabrina and Gary Lee, both of West Virginia; and two step-grandchildren.

Services were held at Prosperity Baptist Church, Big Springs, with Pastor Joe Seeley officiating, and at Everhart Funeral Home, Bergholz, Ohio, with Pastor Carl Fry officiating. Burial was in Bergholz Cemetery.

Erma Lynch Wagoner, 88, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late George and Addie Anderson Lynch and granddaughter of the late George and Jemima Knotts Lynch and Elias and Margaret Sole Anderson. She was a member of Stoney Point United Methodist Church, Arnoldsburg; D.A.R., Marietta Chapter; and Edward Parrish Colonial Dames of XVII Century. She was a resident of Dunbar for 50 years and was a homemaker.

Surviving are one daughter, Lois Curry of Vincent, Ohio; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Wagoner; and three brothers, Delbert, Edgar and Russell Lynch.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating, and burial in Lynch Cemetery, Arnoldsburg. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, noon to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Juanita Mae Waggoner, 75, of Deerfield, Ohio, died Friday, Apr. 4, 2003, at Woodlands of Robinson, Ravenna, Ohio.

She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Rev. Clovis D. and Glada Ritchie Harris. She was a longtime resident of Spencer before moving to Ravenna and Deerfield.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Earl Waggoner; one son, William R. Harris of Ravenna; one brother, William Harris of Grantsville; and one sister, Oleta Heiney of Ravenna.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Ray N. Harris, and one sister, Leota Fultz.

Services were held at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with Rev. Jody R. Hill officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Ravenna.

Surviving are his wife, Loris Everson Waggoner; two sons, donald Waggoner of Parkersburg and Orval A. Waggoner of Arnoldsburg; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lota Nichols Waggoner, and one grandson, Orval J. Waggoner.

Gene Edward Wagoner, 58, of Sand ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at his home.

He was the son of Elza and Myra Midcap Wagoner. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from Ames Co., in 2004 after 36 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Hoskins Wagoner; two sons, Jamie Wagoner and Brian Wagoner; two grandchildren, Breanna Wagoner and MacKenzie Holbert; two brothers, Elmer of Sand Ridge and Ray of Parkersburg; and one sister, Susan Davidson of Davisville.

A private service will be held at the family's convenience.

He was the son of Paul and Grace Richards Wagoner of Big Bend. He attended Spruce Hollow Community Church where he was a lifelong member.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Wagoner; one son, Brian Wagoner; one daughter, Tara Wagoner; one granddaughter, Haley Holcomb, and her parents, Heidi and Josh McCumbers, all of Big Bend; one brother, Gary Wagoner and wife Connie of Big Bend; one sister, Sharon Haymaker and husband James of Big Bend; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Eagle and husband Gary of Big Bend, and Mary Butler and Carol Kanally, both of Lockport, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Kevin Ranson of Clay; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James L. and Clara Richards; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Jane Wagoner; mother-in-law, Christina Eagle; and father-in-law, Woodrow Butler.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Arthelia Kerby Roach. She was a homemaker and formerly attended Leatherbark Community Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Whited of Parkersburg; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grand-children; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorcie Wagoner, in 1981; three sisters, Susie Starcher, Hattie Whiting and Myrtle McCauley; and two brothers, Denver and Denzil Roach.

Bernard F. Wallbrown, 84, of Spencer, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Miletree Health Care Center, Spencer. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late William Henry and Grace Price Wallbrown. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and retired from Teledyne-Monarch Rubber, Hartville, Ohio, after 20 years.

Surviving are three sisters, Hazel Brannon and Pearl King, both of Arnoldsburg, and Eula Hall of Spencer; and one brother, Dale Wallbrown of Arnoldsburg.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Crystal Irene Wallbrown, and two brothers, Harley and Carl Wallbrown.

Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spen­cer, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery, near Arnoldsburg.

Arthur Walker, Jr., 78, of Orma, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Roane General Hospital.

He was the son of the late William Arthur Walker, Sr., and Martha Ellen Sweeney Walker. He was a farmer.

Surviving are two brothers, William Ronald "Pete" Walker of Clendenin and Donald Walker of Castli, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; caregiver, Maggie Shaffer of Chloe; and special neighbors, George and Sue Hughes of Orma.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Walker and Burnard Walker, and two sisters, Vernita Chandler and Maxine Engle.

Services were held at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with Virgil Ross officiating. Burial was in Clendenin Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Michael and Mary Sampson Walbrown. He was a retired supervisor for the West Virginia Dept. of Highways. He was a member of Linden Masonic Lodge and Milo Church. He was the last member of the Michael Walbrown family.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Miller Walbrown.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Willadeen Walbrown; seven brothers, Henry, Wilbur, Ernest, Winfred, Seldon, Oris and Denver Walbrown; and five sisters, Olive Monneypenny, Stella Hardy, Harriet Witte, Icy Bailey and Elizabeth Surface.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Junior, Victor and Denver Board, and three sisters, Valley Stutler, Fleetice Starcher and Bonnie Mollohan.

Surviving in addition to her parents are three brothers, Richard Walker, Jr., of Cottageville, Curtis Walker of Huntsville, Ala., and Phillip Walker of Statesville; one sister, Amy Jo Walker of Statesville; five nieces; seven nephews; and one favorite aunt, Carol Siers.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Wallace Beasley officiating. Burial was in Minnora Cemetery.

EDWARD ALLEN WALKER

Edward Allen Walker, 24, was shot and killed on Mar. 14, 1977, in Elyria, Ohio.

He was born at Big Bend, the son of Harold Walker of Weirton and JoAnn Walker Jones of Big Bend. He was formerly employed by W.Va. Dept. of Highways and was associated with Ralan Welding Corp., Elyria. He was a graduate member of Calhoun Junior IOOF Lodge No. 24.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Lenore Enoch Walker; two daughters, Stephanie and Marsha three brother, Vernon and Mike Walker and Tommy Jones, all of Big Bend; maternal grandmother, Icy Jones of Big Bend; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ferrell of Big Bend; paternal great-grandfather, Dwight Meadows of Creston; and step-father, John Jones of Big Bend.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley and Rev. Glen Green officiating. Burial was in Maze Cemetery, Munday.

Harry P. Walker

PARKERSBURG - Harry P. Walker, 65, of Parkersburg died Feb. 26, 2004, following a short battle with small cell lung cancer.

He was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Arnoldsburg, a son of the late Holly B. and Martha Edna (Snyder) Walker.

Mr. Walker was a 25-year self-employed carrier of the Parkersburg News and Sentinel, where he treasured his loyal customers and friends. He was a collector of classic cars, was an avid collector of diecast models, was a former push truck driver in the 1970's for local dirt racing tracks, loved and cared for his pet cats and was a people person loved by all.

He is survived by three sons, Steven W. "Steve" Walker and Russell D. "Russ" Walker, both of Parkersburg, and Randal D. "Randy" Walker and wife, Shannon, of Belpre; three daughters, Rebecca D. "Becki" Ruddlesden of Parkersburg, Robyn D. Watson and husband, Curtis, of Parkersburg and Ronda D. Jowers and husband, Chris, of Lubeck; five nieces and nephews, three of which he took at a young age to raise as his own when his sister, Evelene, passed away, James E. "Jim" Lockney and wife, Bonnie, of Petersburg, W.Va., Barbara A. "Barb" Short and husband, Jim, of Illinois and Sheila D.L. Lockney of Parkersburg; one sister, Virginia "Ginny" Martin and husband, Clarence, of Arkansas; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and Daniel R. Reed, who considered Harry a father figure.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Walker; one sister, Iva Evelene Lockney; and three grandchildren, Barbara Ann "Barbie" Meredith, Benjamin Edward "Benji" Ruddlesden and Matthew Trenton Jowers.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Michael Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in the Droddy-Canterbury Cemetery in Walton, W.Va. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family has requested that all memorial donations be made to the Harry P. Walker Memorial Fund, c/o United Bank, 514 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

LESTER WALKER

Rev. Lester Ray Walker, 71, of Spencer, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

He was born in Woodland, Ill., the son of the late Shirley and Edna Johnson Walker. He received Bible training at Moody Bible Institute and attended American Conservatory of Music, both in Chicago. He was licensed and ordained by Glenville Baptist Church on Nov. 7, 1961, and served several churches in West Virginia. He was presently serving Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Stumptown. He was a member of Gilboa Baptist Church, Reedy, and Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Betty June Miller Walker; one son, William Lloyd Walker of Philippi; three daughters, Debra Sue Siebring of Rensselaer, Ind., and Melinda Raye Walker and Lisa Dawn Hamric, both of Spencer; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Broad Run Baptist Church, Jane Lew, with Rev. Lloyd Hamblin and Rev. Mike King officiating. Burial will be in Broad Run Church Cemetery with graveside services conducted by Rev. William Coffindaffer. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, and Thursday, two hours prior to services, at the church.

Alma G. Ward, 77, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was the daughter of the late Andy and Josie Statler Craddock. She was employed by, Calhoun General Hospital as a cook for 19 years. She was a foster grandparent at Brooksville Grade School and Pleasant Hill Elementary.

Surviving are one sister, Cozetta Smith of Grantsville; one nephew, Albert (Bim) Smith of Grantsville; two nieces, Lillie Smith of Parkersburg and Mary Ball of Grantsville; one great-niece, Jamaylea Smith of Worthington, Ky.; four great-nephews, Joseph Smith of Grantsville, Todd Smith of Spencer, Danny Ball of Parkersburg and Michael Ball of Grantsville; one great-great-niece, Brooklyn Smith of Harrisville; and two great-great-nephews, Douglas and Gregory Smith of Terra Alta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Ward; one son, Bryan Ward, Jr.; and one sister, Ann Craddock.

He was born in Warren, Ohio, the son of Alma Craddock Ward of Grantsville and the late Bryan Ward, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a former employee of W.Va. Dept. of Highways. He was employed by New Horizon Coal Co., Irvine, and was a member of Lower Run Hunting Club and Knights of Pythias Lodge, Cremo, and honorary member of Lick Run Hunting Club.

Surviving in addition to his mother are one aunt, Cozetta Smith of Grantsville.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery, near Grantsville.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Della Grimm Kelley. She was a member of Cherry Fork United Methodist Church for many years.

Surviving are one son, Denzil Glenn Ward and wife Andeline of White Pine; two daughters, Barbara J. Basnett and husband Fred of Ravenswood and Donna J. Rupert and husband Richard of White Pine; one brother, Donald B. Kelley and wife Willa Lea of Grantsville; two sisters, Laura Geraldine Kelley of Grantsville and Frances Jean Miller and husband Odus of Bull River; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ursel B. Ward; one daughter, Janet Lee Ward Kelley; one son, Ursel Bruce Ward; two brothers, Virgil and Blenden Kelley; and two sisters, Gladys Whipkey and Carolina Barr.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating, and burial in Cherry Fork-Kight Cemetery.

Walter "Junior" Ward, 76, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Apr. 17, 2004, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born in Grantsville, the son of the late Walter and Ina Wright Ward. He was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church and worked for Elkem, formerly Union Carbide. He was a stock car race driver.

Surviving are his wife of more than 50 years, Norma Robey Ward of Parkersburg; two sisters, Geraldine Sloan of Parkersburg and Blondell Miller of Ravenswood; and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one nephew, Buddy Roger Robey.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Larry Piatt officiating, and burial in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Weaver Ward; five sons, Jennings of Akron, Ohio, Walter of Grantsville, A.J. and Johnny, both of Pleasant Hill, and Arlie at home; two daughters, Georgie Stump of Russet and Mrs. J.C. Bernard of Kentucky; and two sisters, Maude Blake and Dora Ward, both of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Services were held at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with Rev. M.E. Burns officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Jesse and Effa May Stevens Ward. He was retired from W.Va. Dept. of Highways and was a fanner. He was former president of Calhoun County Farm Bureau and was a former farmer of the year. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Randall K. Martin of Elizabeth and Dale B. Martin of Grantsville; one daughter, Delana Grapes of Galax, Va.; two sisters, Irene Barr and Madge Hughes, both of Wadsworth, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grand­children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Ward, and one brother, Max Ward.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Rick Swearingen officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery, near Grantsville.

Surviving are two brothers, Daniel and James Wayne of Zanesville, and two sisters; Rita Bagley of Zanesville and Agnes Allen of Grantsville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Wayne, and one infant sister.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Watkins, and grandmother, Dorlene Workman.

Nolan Wayne, 66, of Milo, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Earl and Orvie Falls Wayne. He was a former mechanic and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Church of the Living God, Spencer. He was an accomplished stringed instrument musician and made stringed instruments.

Surviving are two daughters, Penny Casstevens of North Carolina and Orvie Nicholas of Spencer; two sons, Earl Wayne and Dennis Wayne, both of North Carolina; four brothers, Lloyd Wayne of Orma, Frank R. Wayne of Shinnston, Larry K. Wayne of Wooster, Ohio, and Jerry D. Wayne of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mazel Burrough of Spencer and Anna Boggess of Liverpool; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Macel Cabell, and three grandchildren, Kathy, Jackie and Allen Wayne.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Roy Boggess officiating. Burial was in Bailey Cemetery, Minnora.

Ruby L. Wayne, 94, of Ashland, Ohio, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Kingston of Ashland.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Bernard and C.S. "Susie" Ferrell Price. She owned and operated Wayne's Grocery, Tarriff, for 23½ years, and was postmaster at Tariff Post Office. She was a charter member and Past Matron of Linden Chapter No. 152, O.E.S., and a member and former Sunday School teacher at Henry's Fork Baptist Church, Tariff.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Hall of Ashland and Betty Wilson of Vienna; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. "Oral" Wayne, in 1967; one son, Billy Joe Wayne, serving with the U.S. Navy, in 1954; and one sister, Lettie Smith.

Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor F.R. White officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Earline Dale “Bud” Wears, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at his home.

He was born at Orma, the son of the late Everette Wears and Beatrice Carpenter Wears.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had owned D&W Welding and Fabrication, Coolville, Ohio, and was later employed at Vadakin, Inc. He was a member of American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose, and Loyal Order of Eagles.

Surviving are one son, Shane Wears of Cutler, Ohio; two daughters, Tonya Kirkpatrick of Raleigh, N.C., and Diana Pinkerton of Marietta; six grandchildren; his wife, Frances K. Meredith, whom he married on May 2, 2008; one step-son, Michael Hooper of Parkersburg; one step-daughter, Melissa Stover of Tennessee; five step-grandchildren; one brother, Carmen Wears of Butler, N.C.; four sisters, Geraldine Skinner of Florida, Bernadine Underwood and Pauline Cunningham, both of Parkersburg, and Dinah Butler of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patty Lou Wilcox, on Feb. 12, 2001, after 36 years of marriage; his step-father, Willie Franklin Butler; and one sister, Phyllis Butler.

Services were held at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, Marietta, with Rev. Randy Donan officiating. Burial was in Tunnel Cemetery with full military services.

James F. "Jim" Weaver, 56, of Okinawa, Japan, died Sunday, Mar. 9, 2008.

He was the son of Betty Fern Holpp Weaver and the late James Lauren Weaver of Mt. Zion.

He received a bachelor's degree in education from Glenville State College in 1974 and a master's degree in administration from West Virginia University in 1983. He taught for several years at Calhoun County High School before accepting a teaching position with Dept. of Defense Dependent Schools in Okinawa, where he taught middle and high school science on Kadena Air Force Base. In 2001, he was named Air Force Teacher of the Year.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Takayo; one son, Alex of Okinawa; one daughter, Jamie Hickman of Grantsville; one brother, David Weaver of Grantsville; and three sisters, Lora Sturm of Ripley and Linda Shock and Martha Haymaker, both of Mt. Zion.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late John and Ocie Parsons Wallbrown. She formerly worked at Spencer-Roane Hotel, was a homemaker, and a Methodist.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, who was her caretaker, Sandy Webb of Spencer; two sons, Jerry David Webb of Carey, N.C., and Richard Marshall Webb of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil C. Webb; one son, Joe Allen Webb; five sisters, Mary Elizabeth Marks, Viola Norman, Virgie Black, Myrtle White and Millie May; one half-sister, Myrlene Boyce; and four brothers, Joseph Clay, Elza Herbert, George Edward and Henry John Wallbrown.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Donzel Webb; one daughter, Regina Webb Norris of St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Kathleen Coleman of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Guyla L. Brady.

She was affiliated with the Vanderhoof Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles C. Weekley; two sons, Tom E. and Charles Robert, both of Guysville, Ohio; one daughter Judy Clark, of Guysville; one brother, Rick Sampson of Coolville, Ohio, four sisters, Gladys Barton, Mickie Spradlin, both of Coolville, Sue Smith of Florida and Marge Benedum of Reedsville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Daris Sampson.

Charles Cameron Weekley, 67, of Guysville, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Wood Co W.Va. son of the late Thayer and Lena Sams Weekley. He was a former employee of Elkem Metal Co.

Charles was a member of Vanderhoof Baptist Church, and Hocking River Coonhunters and Sportsmen Association and served on the board of directors at the Lottridge Community Center.

Opal Knotts Cottrell Weekley, 90, of Orma, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Roane General Hospital.

She was born at Chloe, the daughter of the late Charles and Ettie Duffield Knotts. She was a homemaker and a schoolteacher in Calhoun and Braxton counties.

Surviving are one step-daughter, Sharon Weekley Hill of Lineboro, Md.; four step-sons, Paul Weekley of Knoxville, Tenn., Lowell Weekley of Orma, Bill Weekley of Wooster, Ohio, and Carroll Weekley of Parkersburg; two daughters, Geneva Lucas of Kingman, Ariz., and Barbara Travis of Parkersburg; one son, Larry Cottrell of Orma; three sisters, Marie Knotts Arnold of Coolville, Ohio, Jean Knotts Carte of Charleston and Juanita Knotts Siers of Fayetteville; 40 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Weekley; two step-sons, Robert and Loy Weekley; one step-daughter, Glenna Weekley Pilgrim; two sisters, Sadie Knotts Arnold and Reva Knotts Gibson; and six brothers, Lee, Scott, Cecil, Bernard, Tommy and Charles Knotts.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Burial was in Minnora Cemetery.

She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Lester and Dutch Gainer Jarvis. She was a 1950 graduate of Calhoun County High School and was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville.

Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Edgar Weekley; one son, Doug Weekley of Doylestown, Ohio; one daughter, Debra Kerr of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; one sister, Ann Lloyd of Dayton, Nev.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Hustead, and one brother, Troy Jarvis.

Services were held at Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville, with Rev. Mike Worf and Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Nicut.

Russell Ray Wehrle, 40, of Spokane, Wash., died Monday, May 7, 2007, at his home.

He was a 1984 graduate of Nitro High School. He had formerly been employed as a laborer and a nursing assistant and had recently been ordained as a Wesleyan pastor.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Joyce M. and Harry L. Hawkins of Chloe; father, Richard R. Wehrle of Charleston; two brothers, Richard R. Wehrle of Nashville, Tenn., and Harry L. Hawkins III of Chloe; maternal grandparents, Russell and Freda Naylor of Luling, La.; and paternal grandmother, Lena Wehrle of Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Norman J. Wehrle.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Orma United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Josiah "Si" Jarvis Cemetery, Oka.

Donald Ray Welch, 70, of Macon, Ga., died Sunday, May 13, 2007.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Robert Welch and Rhoda B. Richards Welch Jones. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and worked for Cherokee Brick and Tile Co.

Surviving are his wife, Lulu Frances Welch; one son, William "Billy" Welch; one step-daughter, Brenda Jackson; two half-brothers, Russell E. Jones of Big Springs and Richard Welch of Lancaster, Ohio; four half-sisters, Shirley Ann Taylor and Betty Jane Jenkins, both of Big Bend, Wanda Dye of Midland, N.C., and Sara Welch of Hebron, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Foster "Bill" Welch; one sister, Lois Carol Welch Richey; one half-brother, Darl Glenn Jones; step-father, Harley C. Jones; and one step-grandson, Derrick Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Delmar Welch; an infant son; one grandson; five sisters; and two brothers.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial was in Broomstick Cemetery.

Ralph E. Wells, 92, of Big Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Yawke, the son of the late Charles Milton and Lydia Jane Williamson Wells. He was a former barber in Smithville and Grantsville and worked for South Penn (Pennzoil) when he retired. At age 65, he began working for Bowser (Megan Utility) as a pumper. He quit working at age 80. He was a member of Beech Valley United Methodist Church, Big Springs.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Ann Wells Frederick; one son-in-law, George Frederick; two grandsons, Rodney Frederick and Gregory Frederick; two granddaughters, Debbie Walker and Sherry Price; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jeremy Frederick, Heather and Matthew Walker and Amanda, Greg and Michael Frederick; and two great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Snider and Garrett Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Winifred (Winnie) Myers Wells; and two sisters, Elsie and Bessie Ketchum.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman and Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating, and burial in Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled until the time of service.

He was born in Annamoriah, the son of the late Ray Wells and Della Stutler. He retired from Armor's Meat Co., Pittsburgh, Pa., and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; three sons, Harry, William and Michael; three daughters, Opal, Helen and Christine; several grandchildren; two brothers, Hie Herron of Annamoriah and Jack Herron of Marshallville, Ohio; and two sisters, Genevieve Mosley of Virginia and Deloris Casto of Orrville, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by two infant brothers, James and Robert Herron, one infant sister, Virginia Wells.

His cremated remains will be buried at Cooper Cemetery.

Lenzie "Mason" West, 75, of Lorain, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Amherst Manor Retirement Community.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Seldon and Ivy West.

He enlisted in the Army in 1952 and served until 1954, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He moved his family to Lorain in 1958 and retired in 1985 from the coupling shop of US Steel. He was a member of Murray Ridge Road Church of God, Elyria, Ohio.

Surviving are two sons, Marvin of San Diego, Calif., and Michael of Lorain; one daughter, Melissa Swetz of Amherst, Ohio; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Hartis West and Benjamin Smith West, both of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Toler West; one granddaughter, Melissa; and several siblings.

Services were held at Dovin Funeral Home, Lorain, with Rev. Thom W. Cody officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Oma Virginia Harris West, 92, of Bidwell, Ohio, died at the home of her daughter, Ruth Bostic, on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001.

She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Asa B. Harris and Virgin Barnes Harris. She was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, and had taught at White Pine School. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Rio Grande, Ohio, where she served as deaconess and flower stewardess.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph H. West of Vinton, Ohio, and David West of Bidwell; one daughter, Ruth Bostic of Bidwell; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Proudfoot of Reading, Pa., and Geneva Johnson of Trenton, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Edward Cecil West, in 1988; two brothers and one sister.

Services were held at Calvary Baptist Church, Rio Grande, with Rev. Luther Tracy and Rev. Peter Conlin officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Rio Grande.

Willard West, 90, of Raytown, Mo., formerly of Calhoun County, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007.

He was the son of the late Jacob and Clara Roberts West and was raised by the late Jacob and Ava Somerville West. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from City Wide Tree Service, the business he founded in Kansas City, Mo., in 1965. He often attended the annual homecoming at his childhood church, Chapel Baptist, Nobe.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Dorothy West; three daughters, Sharon Ebert of Lenexa, Kan., Vicky Johnson of McLough, Kan., and Eva Mack of Kansas City; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia West Stump, and one brother, James "Jack" West.

At his request, his cremated remains will be placed in a niche at Johnson County Chapel, Overland Park, Kan.

CHESTER LEE WESTFALL

Chester Lee Westfall, 83, died Monday, Mar. 6, 2006, at home.

He was born in Ripley, the son of the late Flossie Milligan and Hoyt Westfall. He worked at Union Carbide, South Charleston, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was an instrument flight instructor attaining the rank of lieutenant. In 1953, he and his wife moved to Glenville and started Dalton Store Co. Another store was opened in Grantsville. He retired after 33 years of business. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gilmer Lodge AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and Nemesis Shrine Temple, Parkersburg, and Gilmer County Farm Bureau. He was a founding member of Glenville Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Dalton Westfall, whom he married Feb. 6, 1948; one son, John C. Westfall, DDS; two daughters, Jane Kennedy of Ripley and JoAnn Powell of St. Marys; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Isabelle Baird.

Services were held at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lane Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Chester, and one brother, Clyde Dalton, Jr., of Clendenin.

She was a former employee of Kellwood Industries, Spencer, with 14 years of service. She was a charter member of Spencer Church of Christ.

Surviving are three sons, Edward C. Westfall, Jr., and James H. Westfall, both of Spencer, and Bernard G. Westfall of Morgantown; one daughter, Sandra Westfall Tupes of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Westfall, and one daughter, Barbara Ann Westfall.

Etta Chenoweth Wheeler, 98, of Parkersburg, died Monday, Apr. 5, 2004.

She was born at Nicut, the daughter of the late David Oscar and Mary Jane Knotts Chenoweth. She graduated from Calhoun County High School and Bowling Green Business University, Bowling Green, Ky. She worked in the State Legislature and State Tax Dept., Charleston, for 14 years. She and her husband opened Chenoweth Wheeler Realty Co. in Parkersburg with his father. She later worked for the State Road Commission, where she retired after eight years of service. She was active in Democratic Woman's Club, Civic Woman's Club and Zonta Club, and was a 50-year member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one brother, J. Wesley Chenoweth of Parkers-burg; one step-son, Hoyt N. Wheeler of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Wheeler; one infant daughter, Jane; seven brothers, Thurl R., David W., Denver O., and Carl Chenoweth and three infants; and a nephew, Carl, who was killed during a flying mission over Austria during World War II.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m., and on Friday, noon until the service.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Patsy Whip-key; two step-children, Robert Dunbar of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Rachel Dunbar of the home; six grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Whipkey, Jr., of Maryland and Mike Whipkey of Arnoldsburg; four sisters, Micki Hickman of Gilboa, Lynn Morrison of Nobe, Della Nichols of Mt. Zion and Bea Robinson of Tanner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita Whipkey and Vicki Whipkey, and two nephews, Luke Hickman and Michael Whipkey.

Services will be held Thursday, May 17, 11 a.m., at Whitten-burg United Methodist Church, with Rev. Richie Neese and Rev. Phil Hickman officiating, and burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville.

George Whipkey

George Whipkey, 98, of Grantsville passed away April 20, 2004, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center in Grantsville.

He was born at Nobe, W.Va., a son of the late Abe and Daisy Church Whipkey. He was a well-known gospel singer, having taught gospel music in Calhoun and surrounding counties for many years. He had been a member of the Chapel Baptist Church at Nobe since 1934 and was a member of the IOOF Lodge 118 at Burnt House.

Surviving are one brother, Leon Whipkey of Nobe; and three sisters, Agnes (Susie) Smith and Thelma Lowe, both of Ohio; and Alma Wright of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Whipkey; one sister, Mary Morris; and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Chapel Baptist Church, Nobe, with the Revs. Ronzel Roberts and Robert Nicholas officiating. Interment will be in the Nobe Cemetery. Friends may call from noon - 2 p.m. Sunday at the church

Gladys Whipkey, 91, of White Pine, died Monday, May 21, 2001, in Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

She was born at White Pine, the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Della Grimm Kelley. She was a long-time member of Cherry Fork United Brethren Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Edna Carroll Whipkey and Mary L. Nichols, both of Grantsville; two sons, Rev. Kenneth Whipkey of Smithville and Francis D. Whipkey of Belpre, Ohio; one brother, Donald Kelley of Grantsville; three sisters, Genevieve Ward, Geraldine Kelley and Jean Miller, all of Grantsville; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Whipkey, Sr., and two brothers, Virgil Kelley and Blendon Kelley; and one sister, Caroline Barr.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating, and burial in Kight Cemetery, Cherry Fork. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, noon to 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Family and friends will be received at the church following the burial.

Helen Nadine Whipkey, 76, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Charlie Hupp and Leurna Hathaway Hupp. She was a member of Fellow­ship Baptist Church, Vienna, and DAV Chapter 32, Murphytown. She had formerly been employed by Wood County Board of Education as a cook for more than 10 years and by North Parkersburg Baptist Church as a secretary for 10 years.

Surviving are her husband, Emil L. “Burrhead” Whipkey, Sr.; two sons, Emil L. Whipkey, Jr., of Mineral Wells and Charles W. “Chuck” Whipkey of Parkersburg; one daughter, Linda L. Woolard of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, who all died in infancy.

Services were held at Kimes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Jonathan Lands officiating. Entombment was in Three Crosses Mausoleum, Sunset Memory Gardens.

She was an abstracter in the oil and gas industry and a former Calhoun county clerk.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Godfrey of Grantsville and Deanna Wright of Mt. Zion; two brothers, Tim Reed of Cutler, Ohio, and David Reed of Grantsville; one sister, Euna Reed of Five Forks; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Wanda L. (Granny) Whipkey, 87, of Parkersburg, formerly of Grantsville, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born at Nobe, the daughter of the late Albert Ross and Ida Mae Church Whipkey. She was manager for several years of "The Store" in Grantsville, and had attended Chapel Baptist Church, Nobe. She served as a foster grandmother for 13 years in Calhoun and Wood counties and was a former nurse's aide at Calhoun General Hospital. She enjoyed various church services at Eagle Point Nursing Center where she was a patient.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet Rebecca Smith of Parkersburg and Marilyn Frances Mills of Brohard; one son, Richard Neil Whipkey of Parkersburg; one sister, Ida Mae Nicholas of Grantsville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lenna Mae Offutt, Goldie E. Kight and Waneta Lydick; four brothers, James Henry Whipkey, Albert Ross Whipkey, George Delbert Whipkey and Delmas Edward Whipkey; one grandson, John Patrick Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Athena Dundus.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Casey Stinespring officiating. Burial was in Nobe Cemetery.

Marion G. Whisman, 87, of Mt. Zion, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wolfe County, Ky., the son of the late Sam and Laura Clark Whisman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a sign painter and carpenter and a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elah Starcher Whisman; two daugh-ters, Joan Satterfield of Grantsville and Twila Roach of Parkers-burg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Jack and Alford Whisman; one half-brother, Bill Whisman; and a twin sister, Mary.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Mount Olive United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Swearingen and Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating, and burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation was also scheduled one hour prior to services.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Wava White, and two brothers, Gary and Benny White.

She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church, Ravenswood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruffner White.

He was born at Grantsville, the son of the late Royal and Alma Kelly White. He was employed by Ford Motor Co., Loraine, Ohio, in the body shop for 31 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of UAW Local 425.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Naomi Holbert White; one daughter, Cathy Ross of Grafton, Ohio; two sons, Tod White of LaGrange and Randy White of Fox River Grove, Ill.; eight grand-children; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Ron White of Wakeman, Ohio, and Steve White of St. Albans.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wava Hunter and Carolyn White, and two brothers, Benny White and Gary White.

He was born at Glenville, the son of Nettie Starcher Kerby and the late Greely White of Channelview. He attended Calhoun High School and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He served four years in the Navy aboard the USS Chambers and retired as a mechanic from Auto Handling, Houston, Tex.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Leto Wood and Fresa Jennings, both of Houston; two sons, Freddie White, Jr., and Roger White, both of Houston; one sister, Freda Booher of Orma; one brother, Frankie White of Barberton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Enda Carpenter.

Burial was at the convenience of the family.

James A. White, 70, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001.

He was born in Marlington and spent most of his childhood in Grantsville. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea and worked 19 years as retail manager for McCrory's Dept. Stores and 22 years with Beall's Dept. Stores. He was a Methodist.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Alice; one son, Mark of Palm Harbor, Fla.; three daughters, Cynthia Herald of Palm Harbor, Lisa Wavra of Melbourne, Fla., and Debra White of New Smyrna Beach; one brother, Eugene of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His step-father was the late Holly Beall of Grantsville.

Services were held at Baldwin Memorial Chapel, North Causeway, Fla., with Mark Davis officiating. Military Honors were given by American Legion Post 17, New Smyrna Beach.

He was preceded in death by one son, William "Ronnie" White: two grandchildren; five brothers; and five sisters.

Services were held at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial was in White Family Cemetery, Sleith, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #33.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Delbert Whited, on Aug. 6, 1989; one granddaughter, Deidra D. Whited (whom she raised); one infant son; two brothers, Frank Lee and Doyle Lee; and one sister, Rita Ruth Tuck.

Surviving are his wife, Laura Whytsell; five sons, Elba and Harry Whytsell, both of Akron, Ohio, Gene Whytsell of Parkersburg, Kose Whytsell of Rocksdale and Howard Whytsell of Dover, Ohio; nine daughters, Ruby Wallbrown, Indra Mullinex and Eleanor Starcher, all of Barberton, Ohio, Freda Gandee of Akron, Edna George of Carrollton, Ohio, Geneva Morgan of Altizer, Louise Nevitt of Henderson, Ky., Julia Marsh of Charleston and Katherine Joy of Elizabeth; one sister, Mrs. Roy Morgan of Altizer; 36 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Stoney Point Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Duskey officiating. Burial was in Lynch Cemetery, Altizer.

Velda M. Whytsell, 96, of Sand Ridge, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001.

She was born at Richardson, the daughter of the late Alex and Jennie Wright Ritchie. She was retired from Rubber Fabricators, Inc., Grantsville, and was a member of Sycamore Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are one daughter, Bessie Sutherland of Hines; one son, Ed Whytsell of Florence, Wisc.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edwin Whytsell; one daughter; and six sons.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Victor E. Whytsell; two daughters, Marilyn Sue Kerby of Smyrna, Tenn., and Vicki Walters of Cottageville; one son, Philip Whytsell of Arnoldsburg; one sister, Juanita Slider of Ripley; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Mace.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Allen Smith and Rev. D.L. Kirby officiating. Burial was in Lynch Cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

Woodrow Wilson Whytsell, 88, of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, Apr. 15, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born at Richardson, the son of the late Edwin Lowell and Rettie Starcher Whytsell. He was part of the U.S. Navy amphibious forces in the Pacific Theater and received several medals. He worked as an oil field driller and sang and played the mandolin as part of the Whytsell Brothers duo. He was a member of American Legion Post 21, Spencer, and VFW Post 5959, Grantsville, and attended Leatherbark Community Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Victor Eugene and Randall Edwin, both of Arnoldsburg; two daughters, Geraldine "Deanie" Efaw of Sistersville and Brenda Lane of Jefferson, Ohio; one step-daughter, Marie Hays of Arnoldsburg; five step-sons, James John-son, Cecil Johnson of Middlebourne, Charles Johnson of Mountain, Harold Johnson of Bridgeport and Gary Johnson of Harrisville; four granddaughters; two grandsons; six step-grandsons; six step-granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four wives, Sylvia, Doris, Mae and Ola; two sisters, Hazel Connolly and Elizabeth McCoy; two brothers, Charles Davis and Dewey Paul Whytsell; and one step- son, James "Joe" Church.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. D.L. Kirby officiating and burial in Lynch Cemetery.

Surviving are seven brothers, Woodrow Owens and Joshua Owens, Jr., both of Ravenswood, George Owens of Sunbury, Ohio, Ronald Owens and Charles Owens, both of Parkersburg, Roger Cain of Bridgeport and Dennis Cain of Grantsville; seven sisters, Wanda Hudson of Dunbar, Norma Jean Godfrey, Greta Richards and Joyce Roberts, all of Grantsville, Carolyn Preston and Sharlene Sadler, both of Belpre, Ohio, and Darlene Roberts of Parkersburg; one step-son, Danny Wiedenhoft of Bradenton, Fla.; and one step-daughter, Vicki Lynn Westfall of Michigan City.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles Wiedenhoft; two brothers, Ottmer Owens and Terry Cain; and step-mother, Minnie Owens.

He was born in Albany, N.Y., the son of the late George and Margaret Mullens Wilford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and former ambulance driver for Nicholas County EMS, Summersville.

Surviving are one daughter, Janet Rhodes and husband Dean of Millstone; five sons, Thomas Wilford and wife Lynette of Millstone, and Joey, Robert, Howard and Tommy Wilford, all of Summersville; one step-son, Junior Morris of Millstone; three grandchildren, Amber Dawn Wilford of Millstone, Thomas Edward Wilford of Davisville and Phillip George Wilford of Circleville, Ohio; and three step-grandchildren, Robert Morris and Garold Morris of Baltimore, Md., and April Hurley of Baysville, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Wilford; one step-son, Phillip Garold Morris; and three sisters, Marge, May and Betty, all of New York.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Coen Cemetery, Nebo, with military graveside rites.

Rev. Ruby Inez Wilkinson, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Sandyville, the daughter of the late Logan M. and Nellie J. Balderson Cheuvront. She was a retired United Methodist minister with 63 years in churches in Calhoun, Wirt, Wood, Roane and Jackson counties. She was a member of Red Hill U.M. Church where she was an assistant Sunday School teacher and was in charge of the prayer chain. She was a member of Women's Christian Temperance Union and was still active in delivering sermons at Worthington Nursing Home.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Knapp of Parkersburg and Sandra K. Osgood of Moorefield; two brothers, Calvin Cheuvront of Parkersburg and Glen Cheuvront of Avon Park, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles M. Wilkinson, whom she married in 1935; and seven brothers, Owen, Amos, Doyle, Normal, Dempsie, Lloyd and Delmar Cheuvront.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Philip Dent officiating, assisted by Rev. Sue Jones and Rev. Frank Plybon, with a special presentation to the family by Dr. Helen Bell, and burial in Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family requested memorial donations be made to Rev. Ruby I. Wilkinson Memorial, c/o Red Hill U.M. Church, 114 Red Hill Cemetery Road, Parkersburg, WV 26104.

Surviving are one daughter, Teresa Diane Dennis of Strasburg, Ohio, and one sister, Irene Stevens of Lorain, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hale, Albert and Holly Williams, and three sisters, Opal Bowers, Gladys Williams and Millie Holbert.

April Williams, 16, of Palestine, died Mar. 27, 1987, as a result of a one-car accident of Rt. 14.

She was born in Barberton, Ohio, the daughter of Roger Williams of Elizabeth and Dorothy Bell of Palestine. She was a sophomore at Wirt County High School, active in Special Olympics, school choir, appeared in the musical, "Oliver," and was a member of the Children of Pioneers.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one sister, Lisa Summers of Ohio; paternal grandparents, Jim and Margie Williams of Arnoldsburg; maternal grandmother, Susie Cyrus of Newsome; two nephews, Eddie and Joshua Summers; one niece, Amber Summers of Palestine; and step-father, John Bell.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Services were held at Matheny-Pomroy Funeral Home Chapel, Elizabeth, with Rev. Harvey Greathouse officiating. Burial was in Elizabeth K of P. Cemetery.

Fred E. Williams, Jr., 78, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born at Cabot Station, the son of the late Fred E. and Goldie Smith Williams, Sr. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1942 and served in the 3rd Airborne Division in the European Theater during World War II. He worked for 42 years in the B&O Chessie system. He was a member of Camden Avenue Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Louise G. Williams; two sons, Edward W. Williams and Jeffery J. Williams; one daughter, Kimberli J. Gobel; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

At his request, no services will be held.

She was born at Big Bend, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Carl Shroyer of Munday. She had attended Calhoun schools, including Calhoun High School.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Douglas Williams of Huntsville; and five children, Deborah W. Powell, Roy Williams, Phillip Williams, Carl Williams and Jennifer Williams, all of Huntsville.

Services were held in Pensacola, Fla.

Pleasant Winfred "P.W." Williams, 84, of Elkins, former resident of Calhoun County, died Saturday, Mar. 18, 2006, at Talbott's Personal Care Home, Belington.

He was born in Oneida, Tenn., the son of the late Olive Chambers and Benjamin F. Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar technician aboard the escort carrier USS Gilbert Islands in the South Pacific. He worked as an account­ant for Atomic Energy Commission before being transferred to its Washington, D.C., office. He retired from Dept. of Energy in 1979.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Doty Williams; one brother, Benjamin Williams; two daughters, Brenda Carol Cachia and Karen Gail Martin; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Sally Barnett, Emily May, Leslie McCormick and Daryl Pullen; and eight step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Cornelia O'Conner Williams; two sisters, Frankie Allred and Lavadnia Garrett; two brothers, Lansden Carson Garrett and James Marion Williams; and one grandson, Joshua Martin.

In accordance with his wishes, his remains were cremated and his ashes will be scattered on his mother's grave in Scott County, Tenn., at a later date. A memorial celebration will be held at the Williams' home, 1004 S. Kerens Ave., Elkins, on Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Corp., Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center, or the charity of your choice.

Robert L. "Bobby" Williams, 84, of Big Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Hillcrest Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born in Big Bend, the son of the late James Robert and Nell Ferrell Williams. He served in World War II and retired from National Acme, Cleveland, in 1980, with over 30 years of service.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude "Trudy" Lynn and David Dolnacko of Cleveland, Ohio, with whom he resided for the last six years; one granddaughter, Amanda Wasserman of Big Springs; one sister, Olive Richards of Big Springs; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Virginia Swiger Williams in 1993; one daughter, Roberta Lee; one son, Larry Douglas; two brothers, Foster Williams and Chester Williams; and one sister, Helen Jones.

At the request of the deceased, he will be cremated and his ashes will be brought to Calhoun County in mid-January and funeral arrangements will be made and announced at that time.

ROBERT L. "BOBBY" WILLIAMS

The family of Robert L. "Bobby" Williams of Big Springs, sadly announces his passing on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Hillcrest Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. He was 84 years old and had been living with his daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and David Dolnacko, at their home in Cleveland for the last six years.

Mr. Williams was born to James Robert and Nell (Ferrell) Williams on June 21, 1916, in Big Bend. He married Martha Virginia Swiger on Sept. 20, 1940. He proudly served in World War II from 1945-1946 and worked at National Acme, Cleveland, Ohio, for over 30 years. He retired from National Acme in 1980. He and Virginia happily returned to his home in Big Springs at that time.

Probably the most important thing to Mr. Williams was his family. He and Virginia had three children, Roberta Lee, Larry Douglas and Gertrude "Trudy" Lynn, and one granddaughter, Amanda "Mandy" Lynn Wasserman, who resides at his home in Big Springs and is a teacher at Wirt County High School.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Williams (1946) and Nell Ferrell Williams (1977); his daughter Roberta Lee (1942); his son, Larry Douglas (1972); his wife, Martha Virginia (1993); two brothers, Foster Williams (1963) and Chester Williams (1980); and one sister, Helen Jones (2000). Surviving family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Trudy L. and David Dolnacko of Cleveland, Ohio; his granddaughter, Amanda Wasserman of Big Springs; his sister, Olive Richards of Big Springs; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Williams, lovingly referred to as "Poppy" by his granddaughter and many others, will be greatly missed and always dearly loved.

Mr. Williams' request was that he be cremated; therefore, his ashes will be brought to Calhoun County in mid-January and funeral arrangements will be made and announced at that time.

Barbara Ann Bates Wilson, 64, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007.

She was born in Clarksburg, the daughter of the late Clovis N. and Rosalee V. Digman Bates. She graduated from Newton Falls High School, Ohio, in 1961. While a resident of Grantsville, she earned a certificate in food service from Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center and continued a career in restaurant management. She served as president of Grantsville VFW Post 5959 Ladies Auxiliary for two years. She was a member of Chapel Baptist Church, Nobe. She relocated to Warren, Ohio, in 1993. She earned a diploma in psychology and social work from Stafford Career Institute, Washington, D.C., in September 2001.

Surviving are her children, Kimberley King of Brookfield, Ohio, Sheldon V. Wilson II of Johnston, Ohio, Olis Dee Wilson of Warren, Ohio, and Lorna Bernadella of Kinsman, Ohio; two daughters adopted by her parents, Robin Greer of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Tina Kren of Newton Falls, Ohio; one brother, Butch Bates of Newton Falls; one sister, Betty Gibson of Niles, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Sheldon V. Wilson I, on Sept. 13, 1978; one daughter, Shelley Jean Wilson; and three grandchildren, Michael, Amy Lynn and Jeramie.

Services were held at Borowski Memorial Home, Newton Falls, with Pastor Richard Skiver officiating.

He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Thomas and Rachel Belford Wilson. He was a member of the Broomstick Community Church and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways.

He is survived by his wife, Clareth Shimer Wilson; one son, Burley Wilson of Jeromesville, Ohio; two daughters, Mavadean Yoak of Five Forks and Ilene Wager of Big Springs; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oley and Lemond Wilson; and one sister, Darla Wilson.

Surviving are his wife, Laura Dines Wilson; two sons, Daniel and Harley Wilson; two daughters, Carrie Villers and Patty Sampson; three brothers, Darrel (Pat) Wilson, Doil Westfall and Kenneth Westfall; three sisters, Flossie McDonald, Marlene Kight and Betty Hosey; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lester Westfall, and two sisters, Lois and Darlene Wilson.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial was in Nobe Cemetery.

CHESTER WILSON

Chester Wilson died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Holiday, Fla.

He was the son of the late Oley and Jamie Wilson. He was a 1943 graduate of Calhoun County High School and attended West Virginia University. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Europe. He later worked in Cleveland, Ohio, and Reno, Ohio. After retirement, he spent time at his camp in St. Marys and winters in Florida.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; two daughters, Melanie Salazar of San Jose, Calif., and Sharon Dunlop of Willibough, Ohio; one son, Scott of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Crystal Kight of Charleston.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Foster.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Chester K. Wilson, 81, of Holiday, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Community Hospital, New Port Richey, Fla.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Oley and Jane Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and an electrician at Kardex, Inc. He was a member of American Legion Post 86 and was a Methodist.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; one son, Scott of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon Dunlap of Willoughby, Ohio, and Melanie Kay Salazar of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Crystal Kight of Charleston; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Foster Wilson.

Memorial services were held at Morgan Funeral Home, New Port Richey.

Clarice G. Wilson, 93, of Big Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

She was born at Freed, the daughter of the late Okey and Anna Frances Cunningham Shimer. She was a member of Broomstick Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Ilene Wager of Big Springs; six sisters, Ollie Ford, Goldie Richards, Pearl Reed and Blanche Kendall, all of Grantsville, Arthelia Richards of Elizabeth and Pauline Cline of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard B. Wilson; one son, Burley Wilson; one daughter, Mavadean J. Yoak; one sister, Virginia Williams; and one brother, Teddy Shimer.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Lawson Whipkey officiating. Burial will be in Gainer Cemetery, Big Springs. Visitation was scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

CLARK ANDERSON WILSON

Clark Anderson Wilson, 39, of Millstone, died in Calhoun General Hospital as a result of burns he received last April in an oil field fire.

He was born in Montana, the son of the late Clay and Ollie Brake Wilson. He came to Calhoun County in 1950. Prior to his oil field employment, he had worked at Burch Chevrolet and Stalnaker Motor Sales, both of Grantsville. He was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church and had served in World War II and the Korean War as an infantryman.

Surviving are his wife, Effie Nichols Wilson; two sons, Marvin Wilson and Clark Wildon, Jr.; one daughter, Janey Diane Wilson, all at home; and three brothers, Alva Wilson of Wheeling, Carr Wilson of Lansing, Mich., and Glenn Wilson of Joplin, Mo.

Services were held at Mt. Zion Methodist Church with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

David Hugh Wilson, 57, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, in Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Juanita L. Wilson of Five Forks and the late Hugh G. Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a truck driver most of his life. He was a member of Rush Run Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Charles Wilson and Spence Wilson, both of Parkersburg, and two sisters, Connie Bailey of Vienna and Carole Weekley of Parkersburg.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating, and burial in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to services.

He was born in Freed, the son of the late Denver Wilson, Sr., and Alvaretta Mills Wilson. He was retired from Ames Co. with 41 years of service. He was a member of Camden Avenue Church of Christ and Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge 3.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Georgia Hale Wilson; one son, Gary D. Wilson of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Barbara McCarthy of Stuart, Fla., and Kimberly Barclay of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Camden Avenue Church of Christ with Evangelist Brian Jones officiating. Burial was in Hartley Cemetery, Brohard.

DWIGHT WILSON

Dwight W. Wilson, 64, of Stumptown, died at his home on Sunday morning.

He was born in Stumptown, the son of the late John H. and Harriett Poling Wilson. He was a descendent of one of Calhoun County's oldest families and operated a general merchandise store for the past 15 years at Sand Ridge. He had interests in the oil and gas business and had a large stock farm on Rush Run.

He served one term as a member of the Calhoun County Board of Education and was a member of Eureka Lodge No. 40, AF&AM, Grantsville, and Rush Run Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Daisy Marshall Wilson; one daughter, Mrs. Donald Hall of Sand Ridge; and one grandson, Foster Hall of Sand Ridge.

Services were held at Sand Ridge Church with Rev. N.H. Bartlett and Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge Cemetery with graveside services conducted by Eureka-Lodge.

She was born at Richardson, the daughter of the late James and Joanna Duskey and granddaughter of Daniel Duskey of the Moccasin Rangers. She was a member of Hathor Court 3, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Royal Court 5, Order of the Amaranth, Bethany Shrine 4, Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Parkersburg Chapter 14 Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Wilson and Homer L. Wilson, both of Parkersburg; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Wilson; seven brothers, Brooks, Mont, Charles, Sr., Daniel, George, French and James Everett "Bill"; and four sisters, Amy Stutler, Edith Brite, Tensey Kirby and Myrtle Ritchie.

Services were held at Vaughan Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Stutler officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North Cemetery.

Evelyn Lou Wilson, 75, of Brohard, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born at Brohard, the daughter of the late Oval and Daisy Swisher Wilson. She was a member of Strait Creek Baptist Church, Brohard, where she served many years as the church clerk.

Surviving are three brothers, Delmas Wilson of Brohard, Darl Wilson of Parkersburg and Robert Wilson of Washington; two aunts, Opal Swisher and Genevieve Swisher; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Dallas Wilson, and two nephews, Rodney Wilson and Bo Wilson.

Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Hartley Cemetery, Brohard. Visitation was also scheduled Wednesday, 9 to 11 a.m.

Florence May Riddle Wilson, 93, of Grantsville, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Maud Gay Merritt Richards. She was a member of Pennsboro Church of Christ.

Surviving are four sons, Junior Riddle of Grafton, Ohio, Hoy Riddle and Harold Riddle, both of Elyria, Ohio, and Eugene Riddle of Pennsboro; one daughter, Bernice Tallhamer of Grantsville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William A. Riddle; her second husband, Russell K. Wilson; two brothers; and three sisters.

Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
