A, 7th Regiment West Virginia Inf. is entitled to a pension at the rate of TWENTY-FIVE dollars per month, to commence with the SECOND day of JULY 1918 and to continue during dependence, UNLESS SHE SHALL AGAIN MARRY. L. ELLIOTT, and mother of JOHN J. ELLIOTT who enlisted under the name of JOHN J. ELLIOTT A.D. 1862 in Co "K" 60th OHIO INFANTRY in the War of THE REBELLION FOR ONE YEAR, who REENLISTED IN CO. "A" 7th WEST VA VETERANS on 9th APRIL 1864 AND WHO WAS KILLED ON 12th DAY OF MAY 1864 IN BATTLE AT SPOTSYLVANIA COURT HOUSE VA - - - - - ; that said son WAS UNMARRIED left neither widow nor child under sixteen years of age surviving; that she was IN PART dependent upon said son for support; that her husband, the aforesaid JACOB L. ELLIOTT DIED SEPTEMBER 18th 1876, aged FIFTYSIX years... ; that there were surviving at date of said son's death, his brothers and sisters, who were under sixteen years of age, as follows: ELIZABETH A. ELLIOTT, born Sept. 1(?) 1848. WILLIAM S. ELLIOTT, born June 22, 1850. EMMES (?) M. ELLIOTT, born March 7th, 1852. LYDIA J. ELLIOTT, born May 5th, 1854. MARTHA M. ELLIOTT, born March 28th, 1856. ALLIE BELLE ELLIOTT, born Febr'y 15th, 1858. JASPER L. ELLIOTT, born JAN'y 5th, 1862. That she has not heretofore applied for a pension; that she has not aided or abetted the rebellion; that she hereby appoints EDWARD W. WHITAKER, Washington, DC her attorney to prosecute the above claim; that her residence is in JACKSON street, in the CITY of MEXICO, county of AUDRAIN, State of MISSOURI and that her post office is MEXICO MISSOURI. Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your office of application for Pension No. 248494, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office that JOHN J. ELLIOTT was enrolled as s a PRIVATE on the 28 day of DEC, 1861, at NOBLE COUNTY, O. in Co. "K" 60' Regiment of OHIO Volunteers, to serve ONE year. On the Muster Rolls of Co. "K" of that Regiment, from Enrollment to OCTOBER 31, 1862, he is reported present - - Mustered out of service with Co. as Sergeant, November 10', 1862 at Chicago, Ill. JOHN J. ELLIOTT was enrolled March 1st 1864 at St. Marys in the 7th Regt. W. Virginia Infantry Vols. to serve three years a Private. Muster Roll of a Detachment of Recruits of that Regiment for May & June 1864 reports him absent wounded, and sent to hospital (The regt. was in action at Spottsylvania Virginia May 11 and 12 1864) Muster Rolls of Detachment report him absent sick in Hospital to October 31, 1864. Muster out roll of Company "A" of that Regiment dated July 1, 1865 reports him absent sick in General Hospital since May 12, 1864. No final statement on file. Prisoner of War records furnish no information. Investigation fails to elicit further information..... --------------------------------------------------------------------- State of Kentucky County of Lewis Before me the undersigned Clerk of the Lewis County Court within and for said County on this day personally appeared JOHN SCHOFIELD who being duly sworn on his oath says he was Serg. Co A 7 WVV Infty, that JOHN J. ELLIOTT was an enlisted man of Recruit Company, that affiant was well acquainted with him, that affiant saw him in the fight at Spottsylvania Virginia on the 12th day of may 1864, saw him badly wounded on the field that day, that the wound was in his hips. That affiant believes he died from said wounds, that the enemy got possession of the field where said Elliott lay, that this was the last time said Elliott was seen or heard from by said company, that affiant was acting as Sergeant at this time, that he is not interested in the prosecution of this claim and that his said Post office is Carrs Lewis County Kentucky.
