Congratulations are extended to you for filing the successful claims to
the Civil War medals for Union veterans Alexander Hogue, James H. Hogue
and Henry A. Hogue.  Enclosed are the medals and the documentation
submitted on behalf of your claims for these medals.  We are pleased to
present to you these "tokens of respect" authorized by the 1866 West
Virginia legislature to honor Union soldiers who served in West Virginia
military units.  Your interest in your  ancestors is apparent in the research
you compiled to claim these medals.

The Department of Culture and History hopes that you and your family will
preserve these medals belatedly bestowed upon your ancestors for the
service they gave to West Virginia and the Union Army in defense of the
nation and to the benefit of the formation of the state.
