    David Fluharty, previously married to Lavinia Springer, then to Susanna Springer, settled on eight acres of land located on the right hand fork of Piney, near Ross, Wetzel County, WV. The Fluharty Cemetery, the burial site of David and Susanna, is located on the former homestead.

    David served in the West Virginia Volunteers during the Civil War, eventually reaching the rank of sergeant. He sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, was discharged July, 1865 and received a pension. His pension application describes him as having fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, 5'8", with sandy whiskers.
