Mordecai Amos1,19 was born in 1749 in Baltimore Co, MD. He died in 1836 in Marshall Co, VA. He has reference number 136. lived Baltimore Co till 1801- 1810, West Beth Twp, Wash Co, PA 1810-20, Ohio Co, VA 1820-1825. pg 1681 TCR Mordecai Amos owned property in Harford Co, MD in 1787. This property was called Amosses Purchase which consisted of 78 1/4 acres. Mordecai sold this property to John Hall, March 16, 1801. Mordecai left MD sometime between 1801 and 1810, as the next place he shows up is in the 1810 and 1820 census in West Bethlehem Twp, in Washington Co, PA. He then moved his family to Ohio Co, VA between 1820 and 1825. I know this from information obtained from the Ohio Co Court House, in a case where Mordecai Amos vs Peter Crow---the year 1825 and continued through 1826. I have no record of him actually buying property until March 1830, when he bought a little over 74 acres for one hundred dollars. He also bought 102 acres, this same year, for two hundred and fifty-five dollars. Mordecai lived and worked on most of this land until his death in 1836. His Wife, Rachel then lived on the farm until her death in 1844. His will was written November 8, 1835. It is recorded at both Ohio and Marshall Counties Court Houses. The will was signed with his "X" and witnessed by Jefre Burch, David Rush, and Samuel Crow. The Appraisement of the Estate of Mordecai Amos was done by James Amos from 1836 to 1839. He died in 1866 in Athens Co, OH. private 42 nd regiment 31 AUG to 26 SEP 1814 In 1829 he emigrated to Belmont Co, OH, from there to Monroe Co, OH in 1832, and then to Morgan Co, OH in 1835. He bought farm land from George Gadd, made improvements to the land and in 1846 he platted a town from that land and named it "Ringgold", after Major Samuel Ringgold whom he had known in his boyhood and who died in one of the battles of the Mexican War. Aquila moved to Meigs Co, OH in 1859. He was married to Elizabeth Montgomery on 25 APR 1804. Aquila Amos and Elizabeth Montgomery had the following children: 90 i. Mary Amos. 91 ii. He paid Robert Carrick $130 for 120 acres and paid 36 cents in taxes for that year. He lived on Friendship Ridge for 34 years, about 8 miles from New Martinsville, WV. In March 1883, Emanuel Amos sold his farm to James Newman for $694.93 and moved in with his son, Vincen. While captured, he contracted scurvy, dyspepsia and rheumatism which resulted in heart disease causing swelling of limbs and resulting in his inability to perform manual labor. Aged Farmer Passes Away At Son's Home Jacob Anderson, 83 Years Old, Dies at Harveys After Brief Illness Due to Infirmities of Years Waynesburg, Oct 29 - Jacob Anderson, aged 83 years, died Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the home of his son Jesse Anderson of Harveys following a brief illness of infirmities due to his years. He was a son of the late Jesse Anderson and was born and reared in the Delphene vicinity. He was a farmer by occupation and spent practically his entire life in that section. His wife, who was Elizabeth Amos, still survives. Seven children also survive as follows; Jesse and Frank Anderson of Harveys; James and Lazear Anderson and Mrs Nicholas Evans of Washington; George Anderson of Claysville, and Mrs Sarah Hughes of Delphene. One brother, Cephas Anderson, of Delphene, and one sister, Mrs Sarah Cummins of Washington also survive. Funeral services will e held Tuesday at 1 o'clock pm at the home of his son Jesse Anderson. Word has been received in Washington of the death at Alexandria, VA of Mrs Sarah Herrick, aged 79 years, a former Washington resident, widow of Henry Herrick, who died about 10 years ago. Mrs Herrick was a daughter of the late Andrew Amos and was born in Waynesburg. She had, however, spent practically all her life in Washington. Two years ago her health declined and she went to live with her son, James B Herrick, at Alexandria, VA. He is the only surviving child. Three sons and a daughter are deceased. Mrs Herrick was a member of the Immaculate Conception church of Alexandria. Funeral services will be held Tuesday from the home of her son at Alexandria and the interment will be made there. Mrs Elizabeth Anderson, of Washington, is a sister, and Mrs A B Boles, a granddaughter. 1925 She was married to Enoch Mounts. Enoch Mounts was born on 6 NOV 1843. He died on 2 NOV 1911. Enoch Mounts, a well known painter and paper-hanger, died at 9:45 this morning at his home, 63 Summer avenue, after a four weeks illness. Mr Mounts was an old soldier, being a member of the 140th regiment. Also a member of the "Round Heads". He was born November 6, 1843. He is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Amelia E. at home, and Mrs William McWee, of Summar avenue. The funeral services will be private at his late home Monday at 10 am in charge of the Rev George O. Sheppard, of the Methodist Protestant Church. She was married to Henry A Herrick.
