GEORGE BANE, farmer, section 14, Groveland Township, was born in Marshall
County, W. Va., in 1844, a son of Frederick and Martha (Harvey) Bane. In
1850 his parents came to Illinois and settled in Marshall County. In 1857
the father bought 160 acres of railroad land in Groveland Township, La
Salle County, at $19 an acre, to which he moved in 1859, where he died
June 10, 1880. The mother makes her home with our subject. George Bane
was endowed by nature with a strong, powerful constitution, which he found
of use in the new country. He remained with his father thirteen years after
attaining his majority, assisting in the cultivation of the prairie farm.
He is one of the most prosperous farmers of Groveland Township, and has a
fine farm of 320 acres with good buildings. He was married in 1869 to
Angeline Riggle, a native of Marshall County, W. Va. They have five
children - Frank, Luella, Elsie, and Bertha and Letha (twins). Letha
died Sept. 10, 1885. In politics Mr. Bane is a Republican.
