John Coo was born in 1523 in England. He died in AUG 1558 in Wissington Church, Suffolk County, England. He was married to Dorothy in 1545. Dorothy was born in 1523. Henry Coe was born in 1555 in Great Maplestead, Essex, England. He died on 28 JAN 1629 in Boxford, Suffolk Co, England. He has reference number 2944. He was married to Anne on 4 DEC 1617 in Stoke Nayland, Suffolk Co, England. Anne died in 1634. 27. Robert Coe8 was born on 26 OCT 1596 in Thorpe-Morieux, Sufflok Co, England. He died in 1689 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. He has reference number 1472. Robert came to America with his second wife and four children, departing Ipswich, England, 30 APR 1634, sailing on the ship, FRANCIS, arriving at Boston, MA, in JUL 1634, settling at Watertown, MA, for one year, then moving to Wethersfield, CT. In 1641 he with several others bought land and laid out and settled Stamford, CT. A dispute arose among the Church leaders and Rev. Richard Denton and Robert Coe left the area and moved across the Long Island sound to the then Colony of New Amsterdam, under Dutch control. They then made treaties with the Indians and acquired considerable property and in the first year founded a Church and sold lots and named the town, Hempstead, this was 1644-1645. Later with his youngest son, Benjamin, 1652-1656, he had land surveyed and sold lots, which is now present day, Jamacia, NY. Robert Coe held various Church positions and was a Magistrate in both Dutch and English governments on Long Island. Presbyterian. He was married to Mary about 1623 in England. Mary was born in 1591 in Boxford, Suffolk Co, England. She died on 27 OCT 1628 in Boxford, Suffolk Co, England.9 She has reference number 1473. Robert Coe and Mary had the following children: 30 i. He was married to Margery Sugg on 22 APR 1622. 29. Thomas Coe was born in 1601. He was married to Mary Bronde on 24 JUN 1631. TENTH GENERATION 31. Robert Coe was born on 19 SEP 1626 in Boxford, Suffolk Co, England. He died in SEP 1659 in Stratford, Fairfield Co, CT. He was married to Hannah Mitchell in 1650 in Stratford, Fairfield Co, CT. Hannah Mitchell was born on 26 JUN 1631 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. She died on 2 APR 1702 in New Haven, New Haven Co, CT. Robert Coe and Hannah Mitchell had the following children: +34 i. Benjamin Coe8 was born in 1628 in Boxford, Suffolk Co, England. He died in 1694. He has reference number 736. Miller & Farmer. Came to America in 1634 with his father and step-mother, lived New Amsterdam (Long Island) in 1655, lived Jamaica, NY in 1676. No records have been found for any daughters but he must have had several as land grants were given to others, starting in 1683. Benjamin was an extensive land holder but did not participate much in public affairs although he was town clerk of Jamaica, NY, in 1676. He was married to Abigail Carman (daughter of John Carman and Florence Fordham) about 1659 in NY. Abigail Carman8 was born on 5 JUL 1635 in Roxbury, MA. She died in 1704 in Hempstead, NY. She has reference number 737. Benjamin Coe and Abigail Carman had the following children: 38 i. Benjamin Coe10 was born in 1660 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. He died about 1707. +39 ii. Joseph Coe. 40 iii. John Coe was born in 1670. 41 iv. William Coe was born in 1675. ELEVENTH GENERATION 34. Susanna Coe11 was born on 16 AUG 1653 in Stratford, Fairfield Co, CT. She died on 3 MAR 1745 in New Haven, CT. She was married to John Alling on 11 JAN 1670 in New Haven, CT. John Alling12 was born on 7 OCT 1647 in New Haven, CT. He died on 25 MAR 1717 in New Haven, CT. 39. Joseph Coe8 was born in 1665 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. He died in 1742 in Morristown, NJ. He has reference number 368. Over several years Joseph & his wife disposed of their property on Long Island in the Jamacia area and on 1 MAY 1714, moved to Hanover, New Jersey, near Morristown. In 1718 a Presbyterian Church was organized at hanover, of which Joseph Coe and his wife Judith were members. In 1733 there was a dissension in this Church resulting in a withdrawal of a large number of its members to form a new Church at Morristown, and among the seceders appear Joseph Coe, Joseph Coe, Jr, and Benjamin Coe. This couple probably had some daughters, but only records for three sons have been found. He was married to Judith in 1703 in Long Island, NY. Judith8 has reference number 369. Joseph Coe and Judith had the following children: 42 i. Joseph Coe Jr.. 43 ii. Thomas Coe. +44 iii. Benjamin Coe. TWELFTH GENERATION 44. Benjamin Coe8 was born in 1709 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. He died after 1790 in Tarentum, PA. He has reference number 184. On 8 SEP 1756, a corporation charter was granted to the Morristown Presbyterian Church by Governor Belcher, and Benjamin Coe was named as one of the seven charter trustees, and his name appears on the records of their meeting down to 12 SEP 1777, when he was dismissed to the Redstone Presbytery, Westmoreland County, PA (now Brownsville, Fayette County, PA), to oversee its operation. After the Revolutionary War, Benjamin moved his family to a place on the Allegheny River, which was called "Coe's Station", now tarentum. In the 1790 census, his name appears in Allegheny County as head of household of 5 males over sixteen, 4 males under 16, and 4 females. This enumeration evidently includes the families of his two sons, Ebenezer and Benjamin, who do not appear anywhere themselves as heads of families in that census. No further record of Benjamin has been found. He was married to Rachel Prudden (daughter of Joseph Prudden and Joanna Lyon) about 1735. Rachel Prudden8 was born in 1718. Mentions land of Samuel Anderson to go to Daniel. Was he a private in the Washington County Militia, Revolution. 54 x. Peter Coe was born in 1753. 55 xi. Patience Coe was born in 1755. 56 xii. Philip Coe13 was born in 1742 in Morristown, NJ.8 He died on 8 MAY 1818 in Ohio Co, VA. Died in what is now Marshall County He has reference number 92. Carpenter. Pvt 5th Co, 5th Reg, NY Line. 2nd NY Reg discharged 10 NOV 1781. DAR Patriot Index pg 141. After Revolution moved to Mt. Pleasant Twp, Washington Co, PA. In January, 1787 he was engaged to hew timber for the construction of the Washington County Courthouse. About 1800 moved to Ohio Co, VA and farmed & worked for Cecil family building flat boats to take goods and produce down the Ohio and Miss Rivers to New Orleans.
