Excerpts from a letter written to Linda Cunningham Fluharty by Eloyce Parsons Trader, April 2, 1997: Dear Linda, I was born 12 Jul 1940 in Reader Wetzel Co WV. My family relocated to Fairmont Marion Co WV when I was abt 18 months old. Therefore most of my research has been done with court house documents only. My father's sister, Wilda Parsons Siburt, was born in Reader 30 Mar 1922. She continues living and teaching in Wetzel Co until my grandfather, James Ward Parsons' demise in 1961. Wilda is a brilliant and well-educated lady, that forgets nothing. And at that point I would say you are very fortunate. We celebrated Wilda's 75th birthday on Easter Sunday at her home in Blacksburg VA. I took your letter. She gave the following account of your husband's family. It was common knowledge that John Parsons was the father of Kittie b. 1893. Wilda said John Parsons never denied that he was the father of Kittie, and that the unwed mother was Caroline "Cal' Cochran. John Parsons married Anna Belle Yoho, 21 Dec 1892. They had four children. Caroline married Ben Bowers. They had six children. One son, Clifford was gassed in WWI. Clifford later worked for the Manufactures Light and Heat Company. (as did my father, B. L. Parsons) Clifford and his wife had three children, Ivan, Dorothy and another son. Their yard was adjacent to Reader School. Kittie, daughter of John Parsons and Caroline Cochran, married Grover Bucher. They had four children...... Kittie died during the birth of Hilda. Grover Bucher became so despondent over Kittie's death, that he could not function. He went to live with Mart. (I don't know if my Aunt Wilda meant Mortimer Martin Bucher or the son of Martin Bucher.) Grover was going to kill one of the cows because in his confusion, he believed the cow had given Kittie T.B. Finally Grover has to be placed in Weston State Mental Hospital. He did not live very long after Kittie's death. After the death of Kittie, the grandparents, Mortimer Martin and Permilia Yost Bucher took custody of John Paul, Geraldine Virginia and Clarence Lee. The infant Hilda was given to Oscar and Nora Fankhouser Steel. Grandfather Mortimer Bucher would not sign for the Steels to adopt Hilda. The Steels did not permit hilda to be with others very much. The Buchers felt that the Steels would attempt to reclaim her. Sometime after Mortimer Bucher died, John, Lee and Permelia , moved from New Martinsville to Reader. John and Lee enter Reader High School. John and Lee Bucher graduated from Reader High School in 1938. Fred and Don Bucher, the children of Martin and Bertie Snodgrass Bucher also graduated from Reader in the class of 1938. The four boys were in my Aunt Wilda Parsons graduating class of twenty students. "Cal" was a midwife, who assisted Dr. McCuskey in home deliveries. "Cal" assisted at the birth of Wilda Parsons. Caroline and Dr. McCuskey deliver a Snider boy on the 29th of March, about four miles from Reader, Wilda on the 30th and "Jack" John Robinson on the 31st of March. Both Wilda and Jack were delivered in Reader. "Cal" would take in other women who had difficulties. One Wilda mentioned was Pearl Haught. Her family had "put her out". Caroline "Cal" was a hard working woman, who worked in a rural village to rear her children. If Wilda's memory is correct, "Cal" washed for people. After Ben Bowers died, and John had a couple of divorces, he and Caroline married. John Parsons taught in a rural school, one or two rooms. After he and "Cal" married they lived on American or Huff Ridge. John received a small pension from WV Retirement Fund. Aunt Wilda thought John Parsons spent his last days with son, Thomas. Tom and his wife, Bertha Cozart Parsons, were the parents of three children. Thomas and Bertha finally relocated to California. Their daughter Maxine Parsons Chatham lived in California. Maxine became ill, her husband "Bill" ask the parents to come and live with the Chatham family. Wilda called, (I believe it was ), Mary Martin in Wetzel Co confirm what she believed to be true. Wilda and her late husband, Dr. Paul Siburt, DVM, relocated first to Charleston, WV then back to Blacksburg, VA. Wilda taught at Radford University and Uncle Paul was a Biochemistry Researcher at VPI in Blacksburg, VA. Uncle Paul was born and raised in McMechen, Marshall Co WV. SIXTH GENERATION 23. Kittie Geraldine Cochran was born about 1893. She died on May 6, 1921 in Reader, Wetzel Co., WV. Kittie was born around the time of John Parsons' first marriage. Two years later, her mother married Ben Bowers. After the birth of Hilda, their fourth child, in 1921, Kittie died of complications of childbirth and TB.
