MARSHALL COUNTY VIRTUAL GENEALOGY SOCIETY

     Since there is no Genealogy Society in Marshall County, West Virginia, the Marshall County Virtual Genealogy Society was founded in 1998 by Linda Cunningham Fluharty.


MISSION STATEMENT

     The mission of the Virtual Genealogy Society is to share records, documents, books, etc., related to Marshall County, to assist individuals and families around the world in compiling family histories and genealogies. These research materials, contributed by the members, are presented online, free of charge, at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmarsha/marsh.htm.

     Members of the society are encouraged to submit newspaper articles, compiled genealogies, photos, transcribed records, yearbooks and anything else that pertains to people, places and events in Marshall County.

     The society will hold gatherings in Marshall County, as schedules permit, with speakers on topics related to Marshall County history and genealogy.


MEMBERSHIP

     Membership in the Marshall County Virtual Genealogy Society is FREE. However, each member is expected to make an annual contribution of material for online presentation by the webmaster, Linda Cunningham Fluharty.


ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE VIRTAL GENEALOGY SOCIETY

     The contributions of this society to the worldwide genealogical community are found in the contents of the Marshall County WVGenWeb site http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmarsha/marsh.htm. This FREE site is one of the largest in the country and it contains an abundance of information for genealogical researchers.


HISTORY HERO

     Beginning in 2006, the Marshall County Virtual Genealogy Society will participate in West Virginia History Day by nominating an outstanding contributor to this society to be honored at Charleston, W. Va., as a "History Hero." The annual event, started by Governor Underwood in 1997, is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Culture & History.
