Estella Ellen Swann was born on April 5, 1910 on her parents' farm near Cameron, W. Va. She was the sixth of ten children born to Fred Andrew and Arizona (Miller) Swann. She grew up on the farm, attending grade school in W. Va. and Ohio and graduated from Adena (Ohio) High School.

Somewhere during these early years she acquired the nickname "Toots," which stuck with her for the rest of her life. Estella attended the Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Glendale, W. Va., graduating in 1932 as a Registered Nurse. Following this she went for postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., specializing in opthomology. In 1934 she returned to the Ohio Valley and married Paul Andrew Crozier at St Clairsville, Ohio.

Paul and Estella had three children, Darrell L., Paul E. and Karen Pinney. Paul and Estella lived all of their married years in southeastern Ohio. Paul worked for 46+ years for The East Ohio Gas Company. During this time Estella served triple duty as housewife, mother and working nurse. She worked as an RN at various health care facilities in the Ohio Valley area, including North Wheeling Hospital and Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, W. Va., the Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, W. Va. and The Belmont County Tuberculosis Sanitorium at St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Estella was a convert to the Seventh Day Adventist religion and was very dedicated in the attendance and support of her church all through her adult life. She was also very devoted to her profession and never officially retired. (There is a special saying in the medical field. "There is no such thing as a retired RN".) Estella reached her 86th birthday as a patient in The Wheeling Medical Park Hospital in Wheeling, W. Va. in April of 1996 and passed away there on April 29 of heart failure following open-heart surgery. Her husband Paul had preceeded her in death on May 1, 1995. Their oldest son Darrell (68) resides in Powhatan Point, Ohio, just across the river from Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Paul(67) lives in Titusville, Fla. and Karen Pinney Shelton (57) is a high school teacher in Fredericksburg, Va.
