Eva Elizabeth Swann Johnson, R.N.
Former Resident of Cameron W. Va. and Moundsville

     Eva Swann Johnson, 94, passed away on October 15, 2002 at her home in Burtonsville, MD. She was preceded in death by two months of her husband of almost 70 years, Rev. John R. Johnson.
     Eva Elizabeth Swann was born near Cameron in Marshall Co, WV on Aug 30, 1908. She was the daughter of Fred Andrew Swann and Arizona Miller Swann. Fred Swann was a dairy farmer in Marshall, Belmont and Harrison counties.
     Eva Swann was one of 9 children in this family to reach their majority. In her adolescent years she made her home with her aunt, Nellie Drusilla Miller Patterson, in Cameron. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1928. She then attended and graduated from Reynolds Memorial Hospital Professional School of Nursing in 1932 and shortly thereafter became a registered nurse.
     Eva Swann’s maternal family settled in Wetzel Co in the 2nd & 3rd decade of the 19th century when the country was a wilderness. Her fraternal family came from Maryland in the early 1840’s to Belmont Co. (Ohio), her Swann grandfather, William Street Swann, being a sergeant in the Civil War, Postmaster of Silver Hill, WV and truant officer for Moundsville Public Schools. Her great grandfather, Frederick Andrew Swan, a wainwright in Belmont Co served in the artillery company at the Battle of Baltimore, War of 1812 of Star Spangled Banner fame.
     She and her husband were married in Wellsburg, WV in 1934 and their first child was born in Glendale. They made their original marital residence at 1011 7th Street, Moundsville.
     Although Eva Swann has been gone from the Ohio Valley for many years she has maintained her ties to the area through her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her brother William Herbert Swann of Aberdeen, MD., Mary Emily Swann Dayton of Tiffin, Ohio, Otie Mae Swann Taylor of Uniontown, OH., Estella Ellen Swann Crozier, RN, of Bannock, Ohio; Nellie Irene Swann Reppart of Cadiz and York, NE; Lena Swann Reppart Nation of Cadiz, Oh. She is survived by two brothers: Robert Miller Swann and Fred Earl Swann both of Cadiz. Her parents are buried in Cadiz.
     She is survived by two children: Swanee Lou Johnson Kline of Burtonsville, MD, John Hess Johnson of Jeffersonton, VA. Three grandchildren: Robert Milton Kline II, Mark Alan Kline, and Sarah Elizabeth Spencer Johnson Welborn. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Taylor Alexander Welborn, Jacob Spencer Welborn and Madeleine Alayna Kline.
