DESCENDANTS OF JAMES PETER LONGSTRETH & ELEANOR PEARL Compiled by Jim Longstreth - Dec 2004. Generation No. 1 1. BARTHOLOMEW1 LONGSTRETH1,2 was born 1784 in Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania3,4, and died September 01, 1824 in near Deavertown, York Twp, Morgan Co, Ohio. He married MARGARET O'HARA5 Abt. 1805 in Pennsylvania. She was born January 29, 1786 in Frederick Co, Maryland6, and died April 27, 1866 in York Twp, Deavertown, Morgan Co, Ohio. Notes for BARTHOLOMEW LONGSTRETH: 1820 Census has Bartholomew having 3 boys under 10, 1 boy 10-15, 1 male 26-45, 2 girls under 10, 1 girl 10-15, 1 female 18-25. Bartholomew would be ~36, Margaret would be ~34 accounting for the oldest male and female in the census record. Catherine was a girl 10-15; Sarah & ?? were girls under 10 in 1820. Philip was a boy 10-15; John, Daniel and ?? were boys under 10 in 1820. Therefore, there is one boy and one girl mentioned in the 1820 Census that are not yet identified in the Family database as of Aug. 2003. It is very possible that the missing male is James Peter Longstreth, since there appear to be no other Longstreths in Morgan Co. other than Margaret Ann George Longstreth, her sons and their families. The parent/child connection being established in the database on 18 Aug. 2003 is admittedly based on circumstantial evidence, and this complier emphasizes additional research is needed to confirm it. In some correspondence, Joan Moore, a descendant of Laurence Pearl, noted that this proposed relationship confirms a bit of family tradition. A "Quit Claim Deed" recorded Mar 3, 1853 in Morgan Co was discovered by Lawrence Eldon Sowers which lists James P. Longstreth as a son of Bartholomew Longstreth and Margaret O'Hara. This fits with previously located census records (1820, 1830 and 1840) which indicate this couple had a son born between 1810 and 1820 which had not yet been identified by previous family history compliers. This confirmed connection was recorded in the database June 2004. "York Township was organized in 1819. On the 7th of July in that year the court of common pleas passed the following order in reference to it: 'Whereas, it appears that the county commissions have set off a new township by the name of York; ordered, that said township be entitled to two justices of the peace, and that the qualified electors of said township be authorized to assemble at the house of John Stoneburner on Saturday, the 24th instant.' In pursuance of this order an election was held at the time and place appointed. William Atkins, James McAdoo and Henry Smith were selected as judges, and Elijah Atkins and Jacob Eckert as clerks of the election. Thirty votes were cast by the following pioneers, none of whom are now living. Levi Deaver, James McAdoo, William Atkins, Elijah Atkins, Bartholomew Longstreth, Christian Shirk, Henry Smith, Samuel Rogers, James Dikus, George Smith, Peter Burgoon, Benjamin Parker, Samuel Pletcher, John Shultz, Peter Stoneburner, John Stoneburner, Charles Stoneburner, Henry Weller, Robert Rose, William Foreaker, Joshua Foreaker, Richard Burgoon, Charles Burgoon, Michael George, Sr., Michael George, Jr., Patrick Ryan, James Longstreth, Cornelius Ferrell, Luther Wilson and Jacob Ebert. Michael George and Peter Burgoon received twenty-eight votes each, and were declared elected….. At an election in Oct. 1824 a John George is mentioned." He married ELEANOR PEARL14 February 18, 1844 in Morgan Co, Ohio14,15. She was born May 12, 1820 in Greene Co, Pennsylvania16, and died November 22, 1898 in McLuney, Perry Co, Ohio of paralysis. Notes for JAMES PETER LONGSTRETH: James Peter Longstreth and Eleanor Pearl and descendants were originally entered into the database in Jan 2002 as an "unrelated" or "unattached" family of Longstreths. At that time James Peter Longstreth was not able to be identified as a child of any of then identified members of the Longstreth Family Tree and early publications of this genealogy present his line as such. PETER3 LONGSTRETH (JAMES PETER2, BARTHOLOMEW1)25 was born November 1844 in Perry Co?, Ohio, and died October 08, 1936 in Perry Co, Ohio26,27. He married DIANTHA MYERS28 Bet. 1869 - June 01 187029. She was born October 05, 1849 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and died July 19, 1931 in Perry Co, Ohio of stomach cancer. Their cousins had moved to Union Co, Iowa from Morgan Co, Ohio in 1968 by train to the Iowa border, and by wagon across Iowa. It is possible, but not proven, that Peter and Diantha may have accompanied Eli and Christina Longstreth in their travels to Iowa. Peter was about 23 years old at that time while Eli was about 45 and suffering from a serious heart condition precipitated by marching with the Union infantry during the Civil War. The oldest son of Eli and Christina was about 13 during the travels across Ohio, Indian, Illinois and Iowa. It is very easy to imagine that Peter and Diantha accompanied their cousins on the trip to help with the heavy work and to help watch the 5 children under the age of 13.
