the son of Alexander Pearl. This may be the Alexander Perril who
married Grace Beaumont at the German Reformed Church in Frederick,
Frederick County Maryland, 29 May 1791.

The State of Ohio, Knox County
Pleas (?) at the court house in the town of
Mount Vernon in and for said county before the
Honl. Alexander Hansser (?) Esquire president
and James McGiberry, Anthony Bannin &
Abner Ayres (?) Esq. Associate judges of the
Court of common pleas on the twentieth
day of May in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and
thirty two -
“To the Honorable the judges of the court of common pleas …
in Chancery. The Petition of Peter Dewitt Administrator of the estate of
John Pearl deceased respectfully represents to you honors that the whole
amount of the personal estate estate of the said intestate so far
as the same has come to the knowledge of the Petitioner is as follows
Personal property appraised and sold at the vendue whole amt. - $106.89
Debts due the Estate. So that in any so that in any event your Petitioner
has no hope of raising from the personally a sum exceeding - $106.89
Your Petitioner would further state to your Honors that the claims against
the Estate inclusive of the expenses already incurred in the Administration
amount to the sum of $126 and upwards whereby is is apparent that
in order to settle off and pay all just demands against the Estate it
it will be indispensibly necessary to effect a sale of real property.
Petition further herewith that the said testator died seized in fee
simple of the following described tract or parcel of land situated and
being in the county of Knox in the State of Ohio viz. Being a part of
the second quarter of the seventh township and 14 Range of the United
States Military tract and bounded as follows, beginning at the stake
at a corner of Land heretofore known at the property of Jacob Young
thence North ten chains along said Youngs line to another corner
thence east twenty chains to land formerly belonging to Ziba Jackson
Thence South twenty chains along said Jacksons tract and with a
line of land owned by the Heirs of Eliphatat Lewis deceased, Thence
West on a line of land belonging to the last named heirs twenty
chains. Thence North on a line of land belonging to the heirs of
John Lewis Deceased ten chains to the place of beginning estimated to
contain forty acres more or less together with sundry improvements and
??? thereon and to the same belonging and the said intes-
tate at his decease left no widow but left the following named brothers
and sisters his heirs at law viz. Wm Pearl, James Pearl, Charlotte
Sawyer, Wife of John Sawyer, Elizabeth Clark, Wife of Thomas W. Clark,
all of whom reside in Knox County, and Charity Shivel, wife of George
Shivel who resides in Huron County. Your Petitioner would further
state that said heirs at law are all still living & have an interest
in the real estate of the said intestate - And your Petitioner being
desirous of obtaining and order of this Honorable Court authorizing
the sale of said land prays that the said heirs at law of the said intestate
together with the husbands of the Said Charlotte, Elizabeth, and
Charity may be made parties defendant to this petition. And
that they may be required upon their proper ??? to make full true,
and perfect answers to all and singular the ??? ??? charged
And further that in ??? of the Statute in such case made
and provided, your honors will by decree or order of court authorize your
Petitioner to proceed and make a sale of the said tract of land before hereon
described for the purpose of Raising funds to pay off the debts and
demands against the Estate and such other relief in the ???
as the nature of the case requires-- May it please your

And afterwards towit on the seventeenth day of May on the year aforesaid the said
Complainant, by H. Curliss (?) Esquire his attorney, send out of our
aforesaid Clerks office a subpoena in Chancery which said Subpoena together
with the Sheriffs return thereon records in the words and figures following towit:

seal | that you summon William Pearl, James Pearl John
Sawyer, & Charlotte his wife, Thomas M. Clark & Elizabeth his wife, George

Pleas at the court house in the town of Mount Vernon forthwith to answer to a
Bill of Chancery Exhibited against them by Peter Dewitt Admts of the Estate
of John Pearl Deceased and this they shall in no wise omit under the penalty
of one thousand dollars : and have then there this writ. Witness the Honorable
Alexander Herser Esquire president of said court at Mount Vernon this
17 day of May 1831.

I have a John PERL (often spelled PEARL) that from his Civil War records state he
was born in Frederick, MD in 1830. I have been able to follow John from his 1st
marriage Jan. 1859 in Belmont Co., OH, to Mary A. FREEMAN until his death in 1904
Paulding County, Ohio. In between he was in Guernsey County, Ohio and Allen
County, Indiana. John's CW records give a description of him and his complexion
is listed as "Dark."
In the 1860 Census, Warren Twp., Belmont Co., OH:
