I Laurence Pearl of York Township, Morgan county, Ohio do make and establish this
my last will and Testament.
1st. I give to my wife MARGARET during her life the House and twenty-seven Acres of ground adjoining thereto situated in York Township, Morgan county Ohio it being the East half of the North East quarter of Section twenty (something illegible) of Range fourteen containing EIGHTY Acres more or less and in addition the reto one black cow and one yearling heiffer and one Pet Pig and two beadsteads and beding one corner coupboard two pictor frames, one rocking chair & three new chairs and the cooking stove and one bureau and sufficient cooking utensils & dishes to be selected by my Executor, four leaf dining table and the carpet in the house.
2nd. I want all the rest of my Personal Property sold by my Executors, without
appraisement and the proceeds thereof to pay my funeral expenses, & debts and the balance to be equally divided among my children and the balance of the real estate not bequeathed to my wife is to be rented out by my Executors during my wife's life & after her death to be sold and the proceeds thereof to be equally divided among my children after paying Executor and other expenses necessary.
3d. I do appoint James P. LONGSTRETH and John GOSSMAN my Executors of this My last will and testament.

FUNERAL OF JOHN PEARLE
The funeral of John Pearl, 89, who died at his home at Maxwell, last Wednesday evening, was held from St. Patrick's Catholic church at Junction City, Friday morning. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
(John & second wife, Adeline, are buried next to each other. Adeline was buried 24 Feb 1914. Her headstone reads: 1828-1914.)

LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF JOHN J. PEARL
In the name of the benevolent Father of All: I, John J. Pearl, of Monday Creek Township, Perry County, Ohio, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
Item 1st. I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid out of my estate.
Item 2nd. I give devise and bequeathe to my daughter, Dora C. Pearl, all the rest and residue of my estate, both real and personal, wheresoever the same may be situated, to be hers absolutely and in fee simple.
Item 3rd. I will and direct that my executrix hereinafter named erect at the grave of my first wife and my daughter, Mary Pearl, who are buried side by side, one monument or marker for both of them to cost not less then twenty-five dollars, and also that said executrix erect at my grave a monument or marker to cost not less than twenty five dollars, and to pay for said two monuments or markers out of any estate that may be left after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses, or out of any estate that may come into the hands of my said executrix.
Item 4th. I hereby nominate and appoint my daughter Dora C. Pearl to be the executrix of this my last will and testament, she to serve without bond, and I hereby authorize and empower my said executrix, if it becomes necessary to pay my debts, to sell all or any part of my real estate or personal property, at either public or private sale, and for such price and upon such terms of credit or otherwise as she may deem best, and deed or deeds to make to the purchaser or purchasers, without the intervention or order of any court, and she may divide the same into different tracts and sell in that manner, or may sell all in one tract.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name, at Lexington, Ohio, this 27th day of May, A.D. 1920.

The Pearl homestead, on Monday Creek Road, Maxwell, Perry County, Ohio, was called "Possom Holler." It stood empty for several years before a retired Air Force man and his wife bought it. The house, barn & about 16 acres of land now serve as a Franciscan Retreat. The barn had the original roof that John James and grandson, Clarence, put on it. The Franciscans added to the house and built a new house with a chapel. Donald J. Pearl, s/o Clarence, was there in about 1980 and went through the old house.

William A. Pearl, 74, resident of 445 Main Street, Benwood, city assessor for over 16 years, retired chief loader at the Benwood works of the Wheeling Steel Corp., died last night at 9:10 o'clock in Wheeling hospital, where he had been a patient the past month.
A son of the late John and Sarah Marrese (Maris), he was born in Perry County, O., October 16, 1876, but had spent most of his life in Benwood.
He was for many years chairman of the Republican executive committee of Benwood. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church of Benwood and the Holy Name society of the church.
He was united in Benwood to Miss Alice Higgins (Mary Alice), who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Charles, Martins Ferry, O.; Francis, James and William Pearl, Jr., all of McMechen; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Healy, Benwood; Mrs. Mary Cunningham, RD2, Wheeling; and Mrs. Alice Beatty, Glen Dale. A son, Walter Pearl, preceded him in death in February, 1945. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends are being received at the Altmeyer funeral home, 1400 Eoff street. Services will be held in the chapel Friday at 8:15 am followed by a High Mass of Requiem in St. John's Catholic church, Benwood, at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
The Holy Name society of St. John's church will meet in the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock to recite the Rosary.
Court Carroll No. 299 Catholic Daughters of America will meet in funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock to recite the Rosary.
