William Hart, ch 5/17/1721 d 10/26/1783, was christened in All Saints Church in Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire, England and died in the Oakley vicinity, Bedfordshire. He married Mary Evins, ch 2/25/1721 d 5/13/1757, on 10/23/1746 at St. Marys Church in Oakley. He then married Mary Layton, b ? d 10/21/1777, on 11/1/1757 at St. Marys Church in Oakley. The known children of William and his first wife Mary are: 3a. William ch 9/13/1747 d 1822 3b. Hannah ch 9/13/1747 d ? 3c. Thomas ch 9/15/1751 d 7/29/1756 3d. Mary ch 5/12/1757 d 5/13/1757 3e. John ch 5/12/1757 d ? THIRD GENERATION 3a. William Hart(1747-1822), son of William and Mary, was christened in St Marys Church in Oakley, Bedfordshire, England. He embarked from the Port of London, England between 3/28 and 4/5/1774 for Maryland on the ship Diamond. He was listed as 27 years of age, a carpenter and joiner by trade and came as an indentured servant for a period of four to six years. William could have possibly served in the Revolutionary War as there are five William Harts listed in the Militia and Contintental Troops from MD. After searching the records from the National Archives and Md State Archives, I cannot find any evidence that would positively link William Hart(1747-1822) to the Revolutionary War as these records list only the soldier's name and not age or birthplace. William married Mary Currier (2/4/1770 - 5/12/1849) and they settled in the Mine Run Hundred of Baltimore Co, MD. Mary was the daughter of William(1730-1794) and Martha Currier(Curryer) and had known siblings William, Martha, Elizabeth and Penelope. William Currier(Curryer) was born in London, England and was transported to Annapolis, MD on the ship Greyhound in 1753 as an indentured servant. Several Baltimore Co land deeds are recorded in William Hart's name, the earliest being in 1785. William is listed in the 1790 MD census as the head of family with one male under 16 years of age and three females. William is probably buried in Baltimore Co, MD near their home in the former Mine Run Hundred. Mary is buried in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Wetzel Co, WV. William's will is dated 12/1822 and is recorded in the Baltimore Co, MD records. The known children of William and Mary are: 4a. Josiah, b 1788 d 5/11/1867, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. He married Sarah Garrett in Baltimore, MD on 12/22/1814. William sold Josiah five acres of his property(Bulls Range) in 1815. Josiah is listed in the 1830 Baltimore Co, MD census. Josiah, wife and five children left Baltimore Co between 1830 and 1840 and settled in Harrison Co(W)VA as he is listed in the 1840 Harrison Co (W)VA census and also in the 1850 Doddridge CO (W)VA census. Josiah died on 5/11/1867 and wife Sarah died on 4/31/1858. Both are buried at the Hart Cemetery near Summers, Doddridge Co (W)VA. 4b. Martha, b 1791 d 6/3/1881, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. Martha's(Mary) birth and baptism are recorded in St. James Church Parish Register, Baltimore Co, MD. She married Thomas Hawkins in Baltimore on 2/16/1808. Thomas is listed in the 1830 Baltimore Co census and in the 1840 Tyler Co, (W)VA census. The 1830 census indicates they had seven children. Martha is buried in Wetzel Co. 4c. Ann(Nancy, Martha), b 2/5/1795 d 5/18/1864, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. She married Levi Cox, b 2/25/1797 d 12/7/1887, in Baltimore, MD on 7/2/1817. Levi was wounded in the War of 1812. They moved to Tyler Co(W)VA prior to 1830. Ann and Levi were the parents of nine known children. The 1840 Tyler Co (W)VA census suggests mother Mary(age 72) was living in the Cox household and probably died there in 1848. After Ann's death, Levi married Mary Ann Smith. Ann is buried at the Limestone Methodist Cemetery in Wetzel Co and Levi is buried in Ritchie Co, WV. 4d. Penelope, b 1798 d 3/27/1883, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. She married George Palmer, b c1783 d 11/25/1864, on 2/6/1823 in Baltimore Co, MD. They moved to Tyler Co,(W)VA in 1839. They were the parents of seven known children. After George's death Penelope married Jonathan Stansberry(Stansbury) on 11/30/1871. Both Penelope and George are buried at Mt Olive Cemetery in Wetzel Co, WV. 4e. William, b 10/12/1805 d 12/31/1895, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. His birth is recorded in the St. James Church Parish Register in Baltimore Co. William, his mother Mary and siblings John C, James, Sarah(with son Andrew Jackson) and aunt, Penelope Currier, emigrated to Tyler Co (W)VA in 1828. They probably traveled on the National Road, opened in 1820, between Baltimore, MD and Wheeling, (W)VA, a distance of 277 miles. The 37 miles between Wheeling and New Martinsville, (W)VA was probably traversed overland or by flatboat down the Ohio River. William married Elizabeth Higginbotham, b 11/17/1807 d 3/7/1852, on 12/27/1833 in Tyler Co,(W)VA. The 1830 Tyler Co (W)VA census suggests all who came from Baltimore Co in 1828 were living in one household. William came to what is now Pleasants Co in 1840 and was granted 253 acres of land at the head of Long Drain Waters of Fish(ing) Creek, Tyler Co by the State of VA in 1843. They were the parents of 10 children. After Elizabeth's death William married Matilda Stull. b 8/1827 d 7/2/1890, on 8/23/1852. They were the parents of seven children. William is buried between his wives at the Cloverdale Church of Christ Cemetery, Pleasants Co, WV. 4f. John C, b 7/29/1809 d 10/29/1883, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. He, his mother and siblings travelled to Tyler Co, (W)VA in 1828. He married Mary Harris, b 4/27/1810, date unknown. John C came to what is now Wetzel Co in 1835 and was granted 170 acres of land on the north and south sides of Little Fishing Creek, Tyler Co by the State of VA in 1842. Mother Mary's sister, Penelope Currier, was living in the household of John C in the years 1840-1870 according to census data. She probably died between 1870 and 1880, as she was 88 years of age in 1880, which was the last census that listed her. John C and Mary were the parents of six known children. John C, wife Mary and mother Mary are buried at Cherry Grove Cemetery,Wetzel Co, WV. 4g. Sarah, b 1808 d 10/22/1865, was born in Baltimore Co, MD. Sarah came to Tyler Co in 1828 with her mother and siblings and son Andrew Jackson. It is assumed that the father of her son, Andrew Jackson (1825-1907), was a Garrett since she used this name when she married Elisha Morgan, b 12/17/1802 d 10/22/1889, in 1830 in Tyler Co. Sarah and Elisha were the parents of seven known children. After Sarah's death, Elisha married Sarah Rogers. Elisha and both his wives are buried at the Morgan Cemetery, Wetzel Co, WV. 4h.
