Oakey Miller's house on Rt. 2 in St. Marys was torn down in
the early 1970s when the "Hi Carpenter Bridge" was built.
Oakey S. Miller, the son of Robert and Mary (Dennis) Miller, was born in Archer's Fork, Ohio on January 29, 1898. He moved to West Virginia in 1914 and settled near Raven Rock, Pleasants County.
The wife of Oakey Miller was Ora Belle Barnhart, the daughter of Calvin and Nettie (Davis) Barnhart. They were married November 10, 1917 at the St. Marys Methodist Church. Their children were Violet Marie, Lora Edith, Charles Willard, Ralph Junior, Avery Elmo, Thelma Lucille and Mary Ann.
In 1944, the family moved from Raven Rock to St. Marys. Their Raven Rock home was torn down, as shown in photos below. They resided in St. Marys for more than 31 years before their home was lost to make way for the Hi Carpenter Bridge. At that time, they moved to 5th and Cherry Street.
