Name of County: Pleasants Date of Will: March 15, 1865 Testator: MAHLON HANES Book 1, pages 21 In the Name of God Amen I Mahlon Hanes of Pleasants County & State of W. Virginia feeling impressed with the shortness of life & the certainty of death being of sound mind & disposing memory do hereby make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following to wit: In the first place it is my will & desire that as soon after my demise as may be convenient my perishable property be sold and out of the monies arising therefrom my just debts & funeral expenses be paid, and the remainder if any go one third to my widow and the remaining two thirds be equally divided between my legal heirs. It is my will and desire that my widow shall have & hold all my real estate during her natural life or as long as she remains my widow; and after her demise I give and bequeath to my two sons forever all the farm on which I now live, to wit: to my son Theadore W. & Leander C. Hanes, all of said farm is hereby given to them on the following conditions. They are required to pay to my other heirs as follows: To my daughter Adaline W. Moss they my two named sons are required to pay One Hundred & fifty dollars. To my Daughter Emily S. they are required to pay a like sum. And to my Daughter Mary S. they are to pay the sum of five hundred dollars and to my Daughter Ellen Madora, they are also to pay a like sum of five hundred dollars all of which legacies are held as a lien on said land & to be paid at the following dates all of which legacies are to be paid within five years after the death of said widow. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Theadore W. Hanes my executor of this my last will & Testament, hereby revoking all former wills & testaments by me heretofore made.
