Will of Ruel Johnson. Transcription from the original record by Judy Burns in May 2001 as the will could not be copied because of the fading of the ink in the Will Book - Will Book 1 Page 62 - Pleasants County, West Virginia Last Will and Testament of Ruel Johnson - I, Ruel Johnson of Pleasants County West Virginia being in feeble health but of a Sound and disposing mind believe it to be my duty to make such disposition of my property real and personal as to me seemeth most just. That is to say (after all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid). I give devise and bequeath to my oldest son Ammiel the following described portion of my real estate. "Begining (sic) at a corner to land of E. B. Steere in my line near the East corner of my orchard field. Thence a straight line to a South East corner of my garden fence. Thence on a line with said garden fence to the road. Thence with said road to corner to lands of Rawson's and Glasson's land. Thence in a s Southerly direction with the said lines of Rawson and Glasson to an Oak corner to the lands of the late Moses Ruckman Decd. Thence Eastwardly with the lines on the Southern Side of my farm to corner to E. B. Steere lands near what is known as the Cluster Lot. Thence with the dividing lines between lands of E. B. Steere and myself to the place of begining" (sic). To my son Imlah I give devise and bequeath the residue of my real Estate being the farm on which I now reside. To my Daughter Elvirah wife of James Irwin I will devise and bequeath the sum of Eight $800. dollars. To my Daughter Maranda and her heirs I will devise and bequeath the Sum of Eight 800. hundred dollars. I further devise that after my Just debts and all funeral expenses are paid the residue of my moneys or personal property to be Equally divided between my daughters Elvirah and Maranda or their heirs. I hereby appoint my son Imlah and my son-in-law James Irwin both of Pleasants County West Virginia and farmers by Occupation executors of this my last will. In witness whereof I have signed and Sealed and published and declared this Instrument as my Will. This the 31st day of May 1875. Signed and Sealed this Instrument and published and declared the same as for his last Will and have at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto written our names as subscribing witnesses. Johnson Office Clerk County Court Pleasants County Nov. 7th, 1877 The last Will and Testament of Ruel Johnson dec'd dated May 31st 1875 was this day presented in the office aforesaid by the Executors named in said Will and was duly proven by the Oath of Ruel H. Johnson one of the subscribing witnesses and the handwriting of M. B. Johnson the other subscribing witness was fully proven by the Oath of Geo. S. Hammett and was admitted to probate and directed to be recorded. Teste: J. L.
