He married Anna Rebecca Keckler 26 Apr 1900. Anna Rebecca Keckler was born in Piatt Co., IL. At the age of 4 years, she moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Kansas. Homer and Anna Rebecca Snodgrass were the parents of six children: Cordelia (Miner), Clara (Vohl), Marjorie (McKim), Bertram, and Ted [Theodore]. One son, John Logan, died at 10 years of age. Except for the 8 years (1908-1916) when they homesteaded in Gregory Co., SD, they made their home in northeast Kansas. The last 10 years they lived in Reserve, Kansas. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary 26 Apr 1960. Anna Rebecca Snodgrass died in 1956, and Homer Snodgrass passed away in 1960. The Snodgrass homestead is currently owned by Leo Krieger. Doniphan Co KS; need 1910 Gregory Co reading; family is on 1920 Brown Co KS] ################################## HAND COUNTY Bring on the Pioneers! - History of Hand Co., SD (Heidepriem--1978) yes 1978 -- Bring on the Pioneers, page 556: Benniah Snodgrass was born in Tama Co., IA, 18 Apr 1858, and died at his home in Miller on 27 Apr 1930, at the age of 72 years. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Sarah Dorothy Carter, and to this union five children were born: Hugh, of Custer, now deceased; Mrs. Byron Trummel, Luverne, MN; Mrs. Clarence Wharton, now deceased; Howard, of St. Lawrence, SD; and Agnes, now deceased. In 1883 Mr. Snodgrass took a claim in Nebraska, where he lived until 1888, when he moved to Lyon Co., IA. The family moved three years later to Hand Co., where they resided till Benniah Snodgrass's death on 1 May 1930. Mr. Snodgrass had one brother, Henry Snodgrass, of Waverly, IA; and two sisters, Mrs. George Conana [Mary m. George Copnant /Covant ?] and Emma Snodgrass, both of Garlum [Garwin ?], IA. His wife, Sarah Dorothy Carter, was born in Howard Co., IN, 13 Jun 1862. In 1885 she married Benniah Snograss. She passed away 29 Nov 1934 at her home in Miller, SD. Death was caused from pneumonia, and she had been ill for about a week. Mrs. Snodgrass had two sisters, Mrs. Rachael Phelan (of Larchwood, IA), & Mrs. James Hill (of Kelack, WA), and two brothers, Harrison Carter (Cedar Vale, KS), and Noah Carter (of Lawton, OK). One of their [Benniah & Sarah Snodgrass] daughters, Ruby (Mrs. Clarence Wharton) was born in Lyons Co., IA, 18 Mar 1898. She moved with her family to Hand Co. in 1909. In this locality she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Clarence Wharton on 11 Nov 1916. To this union were born 4 children: Everett, Eva, Eugene, & Erwin. In the spring of 1917, they moved to Butte Co., SD, where they lived until 1923. At that time the family returned to Hand Co., where they lived till 1935. Moving on to Rock Co., MN, she passed away at the age of 41 after an illness of 4 days. [vss - Benniah is s/o Hugh Snodgrass (d. 1895 Tama Co IA) & Lucinda Clark; I have a copy of transcript of the questionaire filled out by Benniah's brother, Henry Snodgrass (1931 Waverly, IA) and sent to Redmond Cole, Tulsa, OK. In it, Henry said his father Hugh Snodgrass was b. 2 Aug 1832 OH, also said he had Hugh & Lucinda's Bible, and said Hugh's siblings were 3 brothers 1 sister: Mary Tracey was sister's name. Joe Snodgrass in Texas, also dead Henry Snodgrass all dead, had no family Wash Snodgrass, near Maqwoketa, IA. ] ------------------------- ###################################### MOODY COUNTY Pioneer Pathfinder, vol. 20, page 7: History of Trent (Bloomfield), Moody Co. SD - yes 17 Jul 1879 -- The young tornado last Monday demolished claim shanties of Drake, John Buel, & Snodgrass, and also George Loucks' granary. 21 Sep 1879 -- A Sunday School was organized yesterday at Brookfield. Snodgrass, 31, of Rapid City, Pennington Co., married Florence Lules, 21, of Rapid City, Pennington Co.
