Dorothy Anna Ardisson - Dorothy Anna Ardisson, 91, of Greensburg, formerly of Farmington, Mich., died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Golden Heights Personal Care Home, Irwin. She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late John and Mary J. Oswald Ardisson.

Dorothy graduated from Franklin Township High School, St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in nursing education and received a Master of Arts in education from the University of Michigan, with a major in child development. Her work experience included being a staff nurse at McGee Hospital, Pittsburgh, Army Nurse Corps, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant, assistant head nurse at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and at Mercy College of Detroit, Mich., starting as a nursing instructor and rising to the position of associate professor. During her careers, Dorothy belonged to the National League of Nursing, American Nurses Association and the Michigan Nurses Association, the Michigan Genealogical Society of Farmington, serving as secretary and treasurer, AARP Post 2085, Farmington Hills, Mich., serving as secretary and other offices, Elizabeth Hanna Guild in Greensburg, serving as secretary, and the Westmoreland County Historical Society. Her passion as a world traveler included visiting all 50 of the United States.

Dorothy is survived by her three brothers, Edward Ardisson and his wife, Dolores, of Murrysville, Gerald Ardisson, of Venice, Fla., and Eugene Ardisson and his wife, Mary, of Murrysville; also nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a great-great-niece. She was predeceased by Kay Wenzel, who was her lifelong best friend.

The Ardisson family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Donna M. Havrisko presiding. Interment services will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, where military honors will be provided by VFW Post 33 of Greensburg. Memorial donations are requested to Heartland Hospice, Irwin.
