OBITUARY

Vilma M. "Penny" Haydu died suddenly at her home on Sunday, October 29, 2000 of Swisshelm Park; beloved wife of 53 years to Andrew G. Haydu; loving mother of Drew and his wife Elaine, Mark and his wife Janice, Christine, Lisa, Michael and his wife Elizabeth; loving grandmother of Steve, Jon, Amber, Jennifer, Gabe, Keith & Hilary; daughter of the late John and Millie Barlock; sister of Fran Barlock, Mid O'Malley; sister-in-law of Betty Barlock & Bud O'Malle and the late Jack Barlock; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & nephews & many other loving relatives & friends. Vilma was born on June 23, 1921 in Glassport. Mrs. Haydu was an active member of the St. Anselm Church while her children were young & was both a Cub Scout & Girl Scout Leader. She graduated from the St. Francis Nursing Academy and saw meritorious service as an Army 1st Lt. Aviation Evacuation Nurse in WWII. Vilma received The American Campaign medal, The WWII Victory Medal, The Meritorious Unit Emblem and The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Friends received 2-4 & 7-9 pm Tuesday & Wednesday at the Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, Inc. 7441 Washington St., Swissvale. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Anselm Church on Thursday at 10:00 am. The family requests donations to be made to The Word of God Grade School, 7436 McClure St., Swissvale, PA 15218.
