LORETTA SUE BERMOSK

Class of 1939

Loretta Sue Bermosk was born on July 17, 1918 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1930 Federal Census, Frank J. and Mary (Schwab) "Bermisk," both born in Pennsylvania, were living in Johnstown with the following children: Loretta, 11, Richard, 9, and Charles 3. The father was a cable splicer at the steam railroad.

In 1940, Loretta, a Registered Nurse, was living in the Nurses' Residence at St. Francis Hospital.

During World War II, she served as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps. She enlisted on July 13, 1944 and was discharged May 23, 1946.

An indepth examination of Loretta Bermosk's education and career was not undertaken for this presentation. However, in 1950, when she applied for veteran compensation for her war service, she was living at the Nurses' Residence at the V. A. Hospital, Palo Alto, California. She was Assistant Professor of Nursing, University of Michigan, 1952-1959. In the 1960s, she was on the faculty at the University of Arizona at Tucson.

She was an author of several books related to nursing practice. Here are two:

  • Loretta Sue Bermosk died on April 30, 1982. She is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
