OBITUARY

Lois Shirey, formerly of Perkasie, PA, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Twp., PA. She was 84.

She was the wife of the late Elmer C. Shirey, who died May 22, 1991.

Born in Trafford, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest R. and Hilda M. (Vogel) Blosat.

Lois used the gifts God gave her to the best of her ability. A 1948 graduate of Millvale High School, Millvale, PA, she attained her Registered Nursing Degree in 1951 and her Nurse Midwife Certificate in 1961.

Lois was employed in the Personal Care Department at Rockhill Mennonite Community for a number of years until retiring in 2000. She served as the Manager of the Pennridge Senior Center, Perkasie, from 1989 until 1994. In 1981, she founded the TLC Child Care Center, Perkasie, serving as its first Director. Earlier, she worked at St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, for several years until 1963.

As a follower of Jesus, she was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where she served on the Church Council, sang in the Church Choir, and taught Sunday School for many years. She volunteered at the Rockhill Mennonite Community Chapel and enjoyed baking cookies and taking care of people.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth M. Harton, of Bethlehem, PA, and Beth A. Pellow, of Perkasie, PA; two sons, John M. Shirey, of Dublin, PA, and Robert P. Shirey and his wife Teresa, of Chalfont, PA; four grandchildren, Jessica Charles and her husband Justin, Justin and Ryan Pellow, and Julia Shirey; two great grandchildren, Nicodemus and Lillith Charles; eight foster children; and a brother, Fred Blosat, of North Hills, PA. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Harton, a Corporal in the U. S. Army who gave his life for our country on September 18, 2010, and a sister, Virginia Reuter.

Her Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Rockhill Mennonite Community Chapel, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA. The family will greet friends following the service.

Inurnment will be held privately in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.
