DELIA CECELIA CONNORS JONES

Delia Cecelia Connors, Class of 1929, and Helen Rose Connors, Class of 1930, were sisters.

Delia and Helen, born in Belmont County, Ohio, were the daughters of Thomas Connors and Barbara Coyne, both born in Ireland, and residents of Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio in the 1920 Federal Census. At that time, Thomas, 46, and Barbara, 44, had the following children: Martin, 18, Deilia, 16, Helen, 15, Agnez, 14, Thomas, 12, Raymon, 9, John, 7, Joe, 5, and Anthony, 1. The father was a laborer in the steel mill.

Delia was born December 5, 1902, according to her birth record. Helen Rose was born on April 29, 1905, according to her death record.

A the time of the 1930 census, Helen Connors, born in Ohio, was a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital and lived at the Nurses' Home. Delia, born in Ohio, was a staff nurse at the hospital, and she lived there, as well.

On June 29, 1939, in Winchester, Virginia, Delia C. Connors, 35, born in Bellaire, Ohio, residing in Pittsburgh, married Earl F. Smith, 32, a Craneman, born in Saltsburg, Pa, and a resident of New Castle. The record states that she was daughter of Thomas Connors and Barbara Coyne.

In 1940, Delia Connors, 34, and Helen Connors, 32, Registered Nurses, lived with brother, John Conners, 26, on South Millvale Avenue. John was employed as a "Companion, Private Duty."

A list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses for 1940-1941, published by the State Board of Nursing, names Delia Cecelia Connors, 220 S. Millvale Ave., Pittsburgh and Helen Rose Connors, 220 S. Millvale Ave., Pittsburgh.

In March 1943, Helen Rose Connors is named in a news article as one of the St. Francis nurses who enlisted via the Red Cross to serve in the military during World War II.

In September 1943, Miss Delia Connors is named in a news article as the superintendent of nurses at the City Tuberculosis Hospital at Leech Farm.

The fate of the marriage of Delia C. Connors and Earl F. Smith is not known, but she later married a widower, James Wiggins Jones, born in 1883. According to his obituary, he had two children. They are known to be from his marriage to Bessie West, who died in 1931. James died of cancer in the hospital at Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio, and he is buried by his first wife at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

Calvary Cemetery, Bel Air [Bellaire].

Delia Jones' nursing license was in effect until her death. The address listed was in Braddock.
