JANE DEVLIN

Class of 1922

Jane "Jennie" Devlin was born in Pennsylvania in November 1889 to John James Devlin, born in Ireland, and Mary Ann Brown, born in England.

In the 1900 Federal Census, John Devlin, a laborer, and his wife, Mary Ann, lived on Alexis Street, Pittsburgh. Their children were Sarah, 18, Ann, 15, Rose, 13, Mary, 12, Jane, 10, James, 6, Joseph 4, and Margarett, 2.

In 1903, Jane's sister, Sarah Cecelia Devlin, of Alexis Street, married David F. Joy.

In 1920, "Jennie" Devlin, 30, is named in the census of her family, residents of Maple Avenue. She was a "Hospital Nurse." Her siblings at home in 1920 were James F., Margaret, Loretta P., and Thomas. Jane, 30, was also listed among the student nurses in the 1920 census at St. Francis Hospital.

The mother, Mrs. Mary Brown Devlin, died at St. Francis Hospital on March 20, 1925. The father, John J. Devlin, died December 8, 1929. They are buried in Lot 753 at Calvary Cemetery.

On July 7, 1928, Jane's brother, Thomas A. Devlin, 22, died of heat prostration. He is buried in Lot 753 at Calvary Cemetery.

Jane Devlin, 39, Trained Nurse, is found in the 1930 census living with her sister, Sarah Joy, and family, on Nantasket Street, Pittsburgh.

Sarah's husband, David Joy, died on December 20, 1939. Sarah died on October 16, 1970. They are buried in Lot 271 at Calvary Cemetery.

Miss Jane "Jennie" Devlin died in Akron, Ohio on May 5, 1936. She is buried in Lot 753 at Calvary Cemetery.
