ELIZABETH DORKO KRAL

Class of 1934


Elizabeth Dorko was born in Jacklovce, Czechoslovakia on October 26, 1911. She immigrated and became a Naturalized Citizen. Following her graduation from nursing school in 1934, she worked as a head nurse at St. Francis Hospital. She was living in the Nurses' Residence at the time of the 1940 census enumeration.

During World War II, Elizabeth M. Dorko was one of the St. Francis nurses who joined the Nurse Corps. An Army First Lieutenant, she served for two periods, between July 15, 1942 and April 25, 1946. According to her Application for Veteran Compensation in 1950, she was a resident of Cokeburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania when she enlisted. In 1950 she was living in McKeesport, and her married name was Kral.

The husband of Elizabeth Dorko was Michael E. Kral, born January 26, 1915 in St. Francis, Missouri. He was a Meat Cutter working in McKeesport at the time of their marriage, on June 1, 1948. He had been previously married and was divorced. In the marriage license application, Elizabeth named her parents as Joseph Dorko, a coal miner, and Elizabeth Kipikasa, both born in Europe, and residents of Cokeburg, Pennsylvania.

Michael Kral died in 1982. Elizabeth died on May 24, 1987. They are buried at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Morrisville, Pennsylvania.
