In a news article about the graduation of the Class of 1913, her name is stated as Anna Mary Franey, from Cassandra, Pa.

Anna M. Franey was born January 28, 1890. She was the daughter of James and Emma (Leap) Franey, residents of Washington Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania at the time of the 1900 Federal Census. Siblings in 1900 were William, Nellie, John, Dora and Pearl, all born in Pennsylvania. The father was a day laborer.

In 1910, residents of Cassandra Borough, Cambria County, the Franey family had 8 children, with the new additions, after 1900, being Edwin and Leo. The father was a laborer in the coal mine.

Anna married James Aloysius Shaw, a professional baseball player, born in Pittsburgh on August 19, 1893. On his WWI Draft Registration Card, dated June 5, 1917, he was married, a Professional Baseball Player, and employed by the Washington Baseball Club, Washington, D. C.

Anne's father, James Franey, died before 1920. In the 1920 census, Emma, a widow, was residing in Cassandra Borough with five of her younger children. Also in the home were her daughter, Annie Shaw, and husband, James, as well as their two children, Jane and James. James was a "Baseball Pitcher, American League."

According to online information, Jim Shaw played for the Washington Senators from September 15, 1913 through July 13, 1921. He was nicknamed "Grunting" Jim Shaw because of the distinct grunting noise he made when he pitched.

By 1930, the Shaw family was living in Arlington, Virginia with their four children, Jane M., James A., Jr., Leo J., and Howard E. The census indicates they had been married for 23 years. James Shaw was employed as an Agent for the Prohibition Bureau.

On the WWII Draft Registration Card of James Aloysius Shaw, he said he was employed by the "Treasury Department, U. S. Government, Internal Revenue Building, Alcohol Tax Unit." He lived in Arlington.

Anne Marie Franey Shaw died May 6, 1959 in Arlington Hospital, Arlington County, Virginia. The name on her death record is "Anne Marie Shaw." James "Jim" Shaw died January 27, 1962 in Washington, D. C. They are buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia.
