According to cousin, Katy Wech, Iva was the cousin of Katy's grandmother, Althea Jones Faley, also in the Class of 1937. Iva's mother, Lula McKenzie/McKinzie Garlitz, was the sister of Althea's mother, Alma McKenzie/McKinzie Jones. Their brother, Oren, shown in the census above, died July 16, 1931 after surgery for a bowel obstruction.

Katy stated that Iva, according to family legend, "died when she returned to West Virginia to care for her ailing mother. She died tragically in a house fire." Katy states that Iva married James B. Standifer and had two children.

The Social Security Death Index indicates that Iva Standifer, born June 12, 1915, died in January [27] 1984; last residence Barracksville, Marion County, West Virginia. She is buried at St. Ann Cemetery, Avilton, Garrett County, Maryland.

James "Hubert" Garlitz, the father of Iva, was born March 4, 1893 in Lonaconing, Maryland. While living in Barracksville, Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia, and working as a coal miner, he was crushed to death by a coal car in an "unavoidable mine accident" on May 21, 1957. Lula Garlitz, his wife, born December 9, 1896, died in October 1976.
