FATHER'S OBITUARY --- Andrew Basil Hleba, 82, of West Mifflin, died unexpectantly after a fall on Sunday, September 30, 2007. Born in Duquesne, PA. on March 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Walyko Hleba. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Potoma Hleba; his daughters, Laurie (John) Krupa, of Munhall, Amy (Mark) Race and Betsy (Tom) Wiggins, both of North Huntingdon; his grandchildren that adored and loved their pap dearly, Andrew and Alex Wiggins, Lucy and Maggie Race, and Silas and Molly Krupa. He is also survived by a sister, Magdalene Tretinik, and sister-in-laws, Betty Hleba and Virginia Hleba, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas and Theodore Hleba and two sisters Helen Hornyak and Mary Barczy.

A graduate of Duquesne High School in 1942, he was a veteran of WWII having served proudly in the U. S. Air Force in the China, Burma, and India theaters of war. He was nominated to “Who’s Who in the American universities and colleges”. Andy excelled in basketball, lettering 4 years at St. Francis college in Loretto, PA., where he earned his Bachelor of Science, majoring in English. At St. Francis, he was a member of the Varsity Club and National Alumni Association. He received a Masters of Education from Duquesne University. Mr. Hleba taught in the Duquesne City School District for 35 years and coached basketball there for 20 years. Andy was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne, the American Legion of White Oak, the PSEA, the NEA, and PSERS.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Richford and Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne. A blessing service at 9:15A.M. Thursday, October 4, 2007, in the Memorial Home will be followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church with Rev. David Bosnich as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, West Mifflin. Parastas Service will be on Wednesday at 7 P.M.
