Romaine Holland was born about 1935 in Kane, McKean County, Pennsylvania, to Leo W. Holland and Josephine Staub. Siblings: Thomas, Leo B., and Joan.

She graduated from Kane High School in 1953, and received a $100 scholarship to attend the school of nursing at St. Francis Hospital.

Romaine married Donald Richard Montgomery and they made their home in Phoenix, Arizona.
