OBITUARY: Esther Theresa Kanfoush, 89, of Aliquippa, passed away quietly on Friday, April 24, 2009, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital. - Born February 3, 1920, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Zaiden) Kanfoush. - Esther was a 1940 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She served for three years in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. In 1956 she graduated from the Duquesne University School of Nursing with a Baccalaureate degree, followed by a Master's of Education in Nursing degree in 1958 from Duquesne University as well. - In 1986 she retired from Sewickley Valley Hospital as an assistant director of the School of Nursing. Esther was a lifelong member of St. Titus Catholic Church in Aliquippa, where she was active on the original parish council, taught CCD classes and volunteered her time in the kitchen. She was a member and past officer of the Lebanon Mirdites Ladies Auxiliary in Aliquippa, and was awarded placement in the Women's Veterans Memorial in Arlington Cemetery, Washington, DC. - Surviving are her sister, Philomena Kanfoush, Aliquippa, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great great niece. - In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and James Kanfoush; three sisters, Isabelle Causey, Cornelia Johnson and Jenny Pellegrini; a niece, Audrey Pellegrini, and a nephew, Michael Johnson. - Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, http://www.tatalovichfuneralhome.com">www.tatalovichfuneralhome.com, where a service will be held Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Titus Catholic Church, Aliquippa, with Father Paul Householder officiating. - Interment will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Hopewell Township, where the Beaver County Special Unit will conduct military honors. - In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Center.
