ROSELLA KOVACH GLANDER

Class of 1946-A

Rosella Kovach was born in 1926 in Cassandra, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, to Dennis Kovach, a coal miner born in Hungary, and Anna Domonkos, born in Pennsylvania.

At the time of the 1930 Federal Census, Dennis and Anna Kovach lived in Cassandra with the following children: Elizabeth, 10, Dennis E., 8, Joseph R., 6, and Rosella, 4.

The mother, Anna, died on September 17, 1938 at age 37. She and her husband, who died in 1966, are buried at Prospect Cemetery, Portage, Cambria County.

In 1940, Dennis Kovach lived in Portage, Cambria County, with three of his children: Dennis, 18, Joseph, 16, and Rosella, 14. According to an online audio interview of Rosella, dated November 2016, her sister, Elizabeth, went to a nursing school in New York. Elizabeth died in 2013 and her obituary indicates she was a graduate of the Belleview Hospital School of Nursing in New York.

While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Rosella participated in the U. S., World War II, Cadet Nursing Corps.

Rosella stated in the aformentioned audio interview that she had worked as a pediatric nurse. She also stated she had been in Panama. She is named in a lists of Outward-Bound passengers to Cristobal, Canal Zone, in 1948 and 1949.

She married James Joseph Glander.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: LENOIR, N.C. -- James Joseph Glander, 75, of Timber Ridge Drive, formerly of Harrisburg, Utah and Rockville, Md., died Friday in Caldwell County Hospice. - He retired from the federal Department of the Navy in Rockville and was a former Air Force employee in Pennsylvania and Utah; a graduate of the University of Detroit; and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. - Surviving are his wife, Rosella K. Glander; four sons, Mark C. of Silver Spring, Md., Matthew P. of Ocoee, Fla., and Anthony L. and John F., both of Rockville; two daughters, Dr. Denise R. of Lenoir and Julia A. of Silver Spring; a sister, Elizabeth A. of Lenoir; and four grandchildren. - Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
