OBITUARY - Herald Standard

Helen M. Lechnar Light, 72, Beloit, Wisconsin, joined her beloved husband, Romie, on Wednesday, August 21, 2002. She passed away at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Helen was born June 15, 1930, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of Jakob Lecznar and Josephine Letki Lecznar.

A 1947 alumna of the former South Union High School, Helen graduated in 1950 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pa. She then completed the Presbyterian Hospital School of Anesthesia and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

Helen was an active duty officer in the United States Air Force. In 1996 she retired as a Nurse for the Veterans Affairs Health System.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Romie Clifton Light in 1965, two brothers, Joseph S. Lechnar Sr. and Jack W. Lechnar, and an infant sister, Anna.

Helen is survived by her son, Mark Vernon Light, and his wife, Tori, of Beloit, Wisconsin; three grandchildren: Kayla Light, Romie Lee Light and Cj Light; two sisters: Mary J. Stossel of Uniontown, Pa., and Dr. Catherine F. Fike of Ruffsdale, Pa.; three brothers: Frank Lechnar of Uniontown, Pa., John M. Lechnar of Gibralter, Michigan, and Dr. Michael J. Lechnar of State College, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In July 2002 Helen felt boundless pride when her seven-year-old granddaughter, Kayla, became the youngest United States Stick-Fighting World Champion during competition in London, England.

A private Committal Service is planned in Beloit, Wisconsin, under the direction of DALEY, MURPHY, WISCH & ASSOCIATES.

A Mass for Helen's intention has been scheduled locally by members of the Lechnar family.
