MARCELLA LINK

Class of 1926

Born February 4, 1896, Marcella was the daughter of Louis Link and Anna (Lang), both born in Germany. Louis, born in 1854, died in 1905.

At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, Anna Link, a widow, was residing at 116 Koehler Street, Mt. Oliver, Allegheny County, Pa. The following children were also in the home: Edward C., 30; Louise K., 29; Marcella M., 24; Sylvester J., 22; Helen, 19; and Esther E., 16. At that time, Marcella was a stenographer.

Anna (Lang) Link, born in 1857, was a resident of 116 Koehler St., when she died February 5, 1932. She was buried at St. George's Cemetery, also known as Saint John Vianney Cemetery. Miss Marcella Link gave the death information.

In 1940, Marcella Link was a Nursing Instructor and lived at the Nurses' Home at St. Francis Hospital. In 1955, she is listed in the Pittsburgh City Directory as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital. She served as president of the Pittsburgh League of Nursing Education.

A sister, Helen Link Shaffer, the wife of Earl Shaffer, died suddenly in 1971. At that time, Marcella was a resident of East Liberty. Two siblings - Sylvester and Mrs. William Dixon - were residents of California. It seems likely that Marcella retired in California to be near the siblings. Sylvester died in Orange County in 1980, and Marcella died there on May 21, 1982.
