Vernon "Dale" Lowe was born on September 25, 1910 in Moundsville, WV. He died on December 26, 1991 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV. OBITUARY - V. Dale Lowe Services Set for Co-Editor Died 26 Dec 1991 Memorial services will be held Sunday for V. Dale Lowe, co-editor of the centennial book, "A History of Moundsville High School," who died Thursday in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale. He was 81. A resident of Sixth Street, Moundsville, formerly of Cincinnati, he was born Sept. 25, 1910, in Moundsville, a son of the late John Wiley and Edith Wilson Lowe. Lowe was a graduate of Moundsville High School, West Liberty State College and he University of Pittsburgh. He taught at Moundsville High School for 10 years; Norwood High School in Norwood, for seven years, and was principal at the Williams Avenue School, Norwood, for 23 years. He was co-editor, with his wife, in 1977 of the centennial book. In 1984 he published a pictorial directory of schools, churches and cemeteries of Marshall County. He played a major role in the establishment and operation of the Grave Creek Mound Museum, and was a local authority on the Adena Indians and Marshall County history. He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Moundsville, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was an active member of the Marshall County Historical Society; the Upper Ohio Valley Historical Society; AARP; National Retired Teachers Association; a charter member of the Midwest Epigraphic Society; a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; a member and past master of Marshall Union Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A. M., formerly Brock Masonic Lodge; past president of Millcrest Valley Principals in Cincinnati, and a former member of Moundsville Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Parks Lowe; a son, Dr. John Lyle Lowe of Cumberland, Md.; a brother, Clarence A. of Delray, Fla.; a sister, Wilda Miller of Moundsville; two grandchildren, Judson and Kate Lowe, both of Cumberland. There will be no visitation. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Simpson United Methodist Church, with Dr. Randall Flanagan officiating.
