Affidavit (Stamped “US Pension Office Nov 20 1905”)
State of Missouri
County of Johnson

In the matter of the Pension Claim of Mary E. Allison (No. 834418 widows) widow of Oscar L. Allison late corp. in Co. A. of 12th Reg’t of W. V. Infantry.

On this second day of November A.D. 1905 personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for said County and State Annie R. Lemley aged 58 years a resident of Johnson County Missouri. Who being by me duly sworn according to law in reference to the above mentioned claim testifies as following to wit:

“My name is Annie R. Lemley. My age 58 years last August reside with my husband and family on our farm about a little over four miles south of Knob Noster in the County of Johnson and State of Missouri where we have resided since the year 1866. I knew Oscar L. Allison the above named soldier in his lifetime. His father and my father lived as neighbors in Marshall Co. West Virginia. I knew him even since he was ten years old. We played together as children and attended the same school. My husband and I moved to Missouri in 1866 and Oscar L. Allison came to our place a few months later and worked for us about two (2) years. In the Spring of 1870 he married Miss Mary E. Wheatley, this claimant, and they lived as man and wife in this county ever since and up to the time of his death which occurred last August in Knob Noster. I have known the said Oscar L. Allison even since he was about ten years old and I know he was never married to anyone else than this claimant and that they lived together as husband and wife up to the time of his death. I have known this claimant Mrs. Mary E. Allison ever since 1866. Her name before her marriage was Mary E. Wheatley. Her family owned and lived on the farm adjoining our farm. She [Copy of page cut off mid sentence]

married Oscar L. Allison. If she had then from my acquaintance with the family I should have known it. I have been intimately acquainted with Oscar L. Allison and his family and circumstances from his marriage down to his death and I know that all that he left in the way of property was his household goods and that his widow, this claimant, has had no proper income, except the household goods above mentioned and the income arising from the sale of a part of them, since Sept. 12th 1905. this claimant sold a part of her household goods here in Knob Noster since her husbands death and removed with the balance to Holdine, Johnson County, Missouri where she now resides with her daughter Mrs. Addie Hagemeyer. I have no interest in this claim and am not concerned in its prosecution. Witness my hand and seal this second day of November 1905.”

Annie R Lemley

Sworn to and subscribed before me this 2nd day of November 1905. And I hereby certify that the affiant Mrs. Annie R. Lemley is a respectable person and entitled to credit and that the contents of the above affidavit were fully read, explained, and made known to the said affiant before signing and swearing thereto and that I have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. In testimony whence - I herewith sign my name and affix my notarial seal on the said 2nd day of November 1905

Affidavit (Stamped “US Pension Office Dec 4 1905”)
State of Missouri
County of Johnson

In the matter of the Pension Claim of Mary E. Allison (W.C. No. 834418) widow of Oscar L. Allison late corporal Co. “A” 12th Regiment W.V. Inf.
On this 30th day of November A.D. 1905 personally appeared before me a notary public within and for the county and state aforementioned, Nathaniel B. Shepherd, aged 63 years a resident of Johnson County near Knob Noster Missouri, who being duly sworn according to law makes the following statement in regard to the above claim.
“My name is Nathaniel B. Shepherd. I reside in Johnson Co. Missouri about five miles southeast of Knob Noster. My post office address is Knob Noster Johnson Co. Missouri. I came to Missouri in 1865. I was raised in Marshall Co. West Virginia and resided there until I came to Missouri in 1865 and have lived here ever since. I knew the above named soldier, Oscar L. Allison, in his lifetime. We were raised in the same county in West Virginia. His father’s family and my father’s family lived near and traded at the same town in West Virginia. This town was Cameron. I knew the family of Oscar L. Allison very well - though not intimately - ever since he was a boy of sixteen or seventeen years of age. I moved out to Johnson Co. Missouri in 1865 and Oscar L. Allison, this soldier, came out to this country in 1866. He resided within a few miles of Knob Noster and in Knob Noster up to the time of his death which occurred last August. Some years after he came out here he married Mary E. Wheatley, this claimant. Since their marriage they at no time lived more than five or six miles from me. Oscar L. Allison, to the best of my knowledge was never married until he married Mary E. Wheatley, this claimant. My acquaintance with the said Oscar L. Allison has been such that if he had ever been married before he married this claimant I should have known it. Oscar L. Allison and this claimant lived together as husband and wife from the time of their marriage continuously to the time of soldiers death and raised a family of six children who are all alive but one, and were never divorced from each other. If they had ever been separated or divorced from each other, living in the same neighborhood, I should have known it. I have no interest in this claim and am not concerned in its prosecution.

Nathaniel B. Shepherd

Sworn to and subscribed before me this thirtieth day of November A.D. 1905, and I hereby certify that the contents of the above affidavit were fully made known and explained to the affiant, Nathaniel B. Shepherd, before signing and swearing thereto, and that the said affiant is a respectable and credible person and that I have no interest direct or indirect in this claim and that I am not concerned in its prosecution.

Given under my hand and notarial seal at my office in said county on the day and year aforesaid.
