JOSEPH BOYLES BLAKE, Company "B"


OBITUARY

BLAKE, JOSEPH B., (1837-1919) - A veteran of the Civil War and one of the oldest citizens of Wetzel county, died at his home in Proctor District on 16 Oct 1919 at the age of 83 years. He was born 16 Feb 1837 near Rosby's Rock in Marshall Co, (W)VA. He was united in marriage in Feb 1860 with Lydia Gorby at the age of 24 years. To this union fifteen children were born, eight sons and seven daughters. Mrs. Blake died in 1887 at the age of 51 years. Mr. Blake married Eliza Jane Coffield Goddard, widow of Harrison Goddard, on 29 Oct 1887. They had seven sons and one daughter. Surviving besides his widow, Eliza, are nineteen children, 98 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Blake was a member of the Christian Church, joining at the age of 30 and being baptized by Rev. Anguish. Joseph B. Blake served three years in the Civil War. Funeral services were held at the Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Linkletter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. - - (Provided by Linda Fluharty.)
