Eli Hayhurst, Company "F"


     Elihue "Eli" Hayhurst, born 1837 in Marion County, (W)Va., was the son of David Hayhurst, Jr. and Pheby Devault. According the information provided by Paul Hayhurst for A History of Marion County, West Virginia, 1985, published by the Marion County Historical Society, David Hayhurst owned nearly 1000 acres of land on what is now Bunner's Ridge.

     Eli married Matilda Morgan, daughter of John and Polly (Wilson) Morgan. He purchased property on White Day Creek where he operated a grist and saw mill. Their children were: Martha Jane, b 1861, m Frank Daugherty; James B., b 1866, m Millie Heston; Margaret Ellen, b 1867, m George Moran; Charles W., b 1870, m Goldie Garlow; Mary Virginia, b 1872, m Canden Summers; Thomas A., b 1874, m Ottie Johnson; Pheby, b 1877, m Selby Bunner; Waitman "Will," b 1880, m Hettie Heston; Rosa, b 1882, m George Heston; and Nettie, b 1887, m Enoch Satterfield.

     Eli is buried at the Hayhurst Cemetery in Marion County.
