Francis M. Swiger, son of Hiram and Barbara Bolton Swiger was born 1847 in Harrison County, VA (WV). He joined the Union Army August 26, 1862 in Clarksburg and was mustered into service at Wheeling, VA (WV) and served in the 12th Regiment West Virginia Infantry, Company E. Francis was killed June 14, 1863 at the battle of Winchester. His body was removed from the battlefield and now reposes in the National Cemetery at Grafton, WV in an unmarked grave.
