ISAAC R. COE, Company "A"

Isaac R. Coe was born on 17 Feb 1820 in Ohio County, (W) Virginia, the s/o Isaac Newton Coe & Elizabeth Carroll. He was the twin brother of Rebecca Coe. He died on 10 May 1896 in Cameron, Marshall County, West Virginia of palpitations of the heart; information given by brother, James D.

Isaac Coe served in the Civil War as a private in Company A, 12th West Virginia Infantry. He mustered in 16 August 1862, age 39. Scott Powell's book, History of Marshall County, published in 1925, erroneously states that Isaac Coe died in November 1863. However, he deserted in October or November 1863 at Martinsburg, WV, according to the West Virginia Adjutant General's Records and his Service Record. See SERVICE RECORD. There is no evidence that he returned to his company.

It must be noted that this man did serve on June 13 & 14, 1863 in a major battle, The Second Battle of Winchester.

Isaac was the Uncle of James W Coe, drummer, Co A 12th WV Infantry.
