Captured at Winchester Va June 15, 1863; parolled at City Point, Va., July 8, 1863; reported at College Green Baracks, Md., July 9, 1863; sent to Camp Parole, Md., July 11, 1863, where he reported the same day; was admitted to Camp Hospl, Camp Parole, Annapolis, Md., July 16, 1863, with catarrah; disposition not stated. Name appears on list of deserters from Camp Parole, Md., between July 10", and Aug 1, 1863, exact date not stated. This charge of desertion is removed under the provisions of the act of Congress approved March 2, 1889. He was absent without proper authority from Aug 1, 1863 to Sept 9, 1863, when he reported at Camp Chase, Ohio; and rejoined his company Oct. 9, 1863.


Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension.

State of West Virginia, County of Marshall, ss:
     On this 30th day of Sept A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine personally appeared before me Deputy Clerk of the County Court a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid John M. Flanagan aged 46 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical John M. Flanagan who was enrolled as a Private on the 16th day of August, 1862, in Company A of the 12th regiment of WVa Vols Inft commanded by Will Burley and was honorably discharged at Wheeling WVa on the 16th day of June 1865: That his personal description is as follows: Age 46 years; height 5 feet 8 inches; complexion FAIR, hair LIGHT; eyes BLUE. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of duty at Rebel Prison in the State of Virginia on or about the -- day of July 1863, he contracted disease of Stomach, Rheumatism and heart disease and general debility brought on by exposure hardships and unwholesome food and water while a prisoner of war at Belle Island, Libby and Castle Thunder(?) Prisons.

     That he was treated in hospitals as follows: Was not treated in any hospital for said disabilities.
     That he has not been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above...
     That he has not been in the military or naval service of the United States since the 17 day of June 1865.
     That since leaving the service this applicant has resided in the County of Marshall in the State of West Virginia and that his occupation has been that of a FARMER.
     That prior to his entry into the service above-named he was a man of good, sound, physical health, being when enrolled a FARMER. That he is now so badly disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States. He hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation T. C. PIPES of CAMERON W.Va. his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. That he has NOT received NOT applied for a pension: that his residence is WASHINGTON DISTRICT, MOUNDSVILLE, MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va.

Declaration for Widow's Pension

State of West Virginia, County of Marshall, ss:
     On this 20 day of Jany A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety two personally appeared before me, a Notary Public, within and for the County and State aforesaid, AMANDA FLANAGAN, age 43 years, a resident of the City of Moundsville, County of Marshall, State of West Va., who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of JOHN M. FLANAGAN who enlisted inder the name of JOHN M. FLANAGAN at Wheeling, on the 16 day of August A.D. 1862, in Co A 12 Regt. WVa Inft Vol and served at least ninety days in the late war of the Rebellion, who was honorably discharged at Richmond, Va June 16 1865, and died Jany 7th 1892.
     That she was married under the name of AMANDA CROW, to said JOHN M. FLANAGAN, on the 6th day of Nov 1865, by M. M. Easton, at West Alexander Pa there being no legal barrier to such marriage that neither of us were ever before married.
     That she has not remarried since the death of the said John M. Flanagan

That she is without other means of support than her daily labor. That names and dates of birth of all the children now living under sixteen years of age of the soldier are as follows:

     That she has not heretofore applied for a pension and that her said husband was in the military or naval service since June 16 1865.
     That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of th Act of June 27, 1890. She hereby appoints B. F. Meighen of Moundsville WVa her true and lawful attorney...........
