JOSEPH KLAISER, Company "E"

      Joseph Klaiser was enrolled on August 11, 1862 as a private in Company E, 12th Regiment (W) Virginia Volunteers. The following was from the War Department record:

Musters Aug 31/64 to Feb 28/65 inclusive, absent missing in action at Winchester, Va. July 24/64 April 30/65 at Camp P? Annapolis, Md. Company was in action at Winchester, Va. July 24/64.

Prisoner of War Records show him captured at Winchester, Va. July 24/64, in confinement at Danville, Va. Feb 14/65, brought from Danville, Va. and confined at Richmond, Va. Feb 19/65, paroled at James River, Va. Feb 22/65, admitted to hospital Division 1, Annapolis, Md., the same day was in the hospital for 30 days. Reported at Camp Chase on May 3/65 and was mustered out in Wheeling, W.Va. on June 16/65.

     Joseph Klasier was born abt. 1847 in Baden, Germany. He was the son of John and Francis Klasier. Joseph first married Rebecca Tibbs, widow of Napoleon Tibbs, on March 2, 1880, in Harrison County, W.Va. His second marriage was on January 30, 1892, in Harrison County, W.Va. to Roanna Livingood, d/o Peter and Emily(Cottrill) Livingood. Joseph's sister, Caroline, married Gottlieb Schutte, who also served in the 12th Infantry. Joseph died on Sept. 13, 1929 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, W.Va.
