Wounded severely in leg in action at Piedmont, Va., June 5, 1864; discharged at Wheeling, WV, June 28, 1865, to date June 16, 1865, per telegram from War Dep't of June 24, 1865.

James B. Manning, born about 1842, was the son of Wilfred Manning (s/o Samuel Manning & Mary Jane Beeler) and his wife, Margaret. James married Sarah Elizabeth McIlvain on October 11, 1866 in Marshall County, West Virginia. Their children were Verdi Virginia, born July 29, 1867, and Georgia Anna, born March 15, 1872.

James died on December 28, 1871 at Bowman's Ridge. He is buried at Nauvoo Ridge Cemetery. George McIlvain was named the guardian of Verdia V. Manning and Georgeanna Manning, the children of James.

The widow, Sarah E. McIlvain Manning, married John Milton Winget on December 24, 1874 (per family genealogy) in Greene County, Pa. They had additional children and were residing in Marshall County in 1880.
