Robert Pugh Dies In Youngstown

Robert Pugh, 82 years old, died yesterday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Stewart in Youngstown, O., following a long illness. He was one of the oldest residents of Hancock county. Four years ago while residing in Chester he suffered a stroke which affected his speech. He then went to Youngstown where he lived with his daughter. The deceased was the son of King David and Nancy Pugh of Gas Valley. He resided in Pughtown for a number of years and was an active member of the First Presbyterian church, being one of the elders. He latter moved to Chester and became affiliated with the Chester First Presbyterian church and during his stay here was named as one of the elders. For many years he was a director of the Hancock Building and Loan company. At the time of the Civil War he enlisted as a private in the 12th regiment of the West Virginia infantry. He is survived by his widow, Sarah Pugh and a granddaughter, Mrs. George Marquit of Hookstown.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Presbyterian church of Chester, Rev. Frederick Cromer officiating. Burial will be made in Locust Hill cemetery. Friends may view the body at the G. A. Arner undertaking parlors in Carolina avenue from 12 o'clock noon until 1 p.m. Monday.

NOTES: Robert W. Pugh was the brother-in-law of Col. Richard Hooker Brown, through Robert's sister, Elizabeth M. Pugh Brown, and a cousin of the Allisons enlisted in the 12th WV. Robert married Sarah M. Stewart, 22 May 1866 in Hancock Co., WV. They had at least four children.
