     I have the honor to return herewith applications for Pension, No. 87,041 with such information as is furnished by the records of this Office, Private W. M. Applegate, Co. B, 1st Regiment Va. Cav., is reported by a Surgeon H. B. Noble as having died Jany. 18, 1865, at Cav. Corps. Hosp. Winchester, Va. of Typho Mal. Fever.

Widow's Claim for Pension.

The State of Pennsylvania, County of Greene, SS.
     On this twentieth day of March, 1865, personally appeared before the ? of the and of Common Pleas of Greene Co., Pa. a Court of Record within and for said county, Sarah D. Applegate, aged thirty-four years, a resident of Richhill Township, in the county of Greene, and State of Pennsylvania, who, being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress approved July 14, 1862:

That she is the widow of Morrison W. Applegate who was a private in Company B, commanded by Captain Boon, in the first Regiment of Virginia Cavalry, commanded by......., in the war of 1861.

That her said husband died at Winchester (in the hospital), in the State of Virginia, on the 18th day of January, 1865. of Typhoid fever while in the line of duty in the service of the United States.

She further declares that she was married to the said Morrison W. Applegate at Richhill Township, Greene Co., Pa., on the fifth day of December, 1850, by one Jacob Loar, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace; that her name before her marriage was Sarah D. Williams, and that ever since the death of her said husband, she has remained a widow: as will more fully appear by reference to the proof annexed.

That no public record exists of the marriage but she have with prints the Certificate of her said marriage sworn to by the said Jacob Loar, Esq. who was there a magistrate for said Township of Richhill in Greene Co., Pa.

That during the existence of the aforesaid marriage there were born to her and her said husband the following named children, who are now under the age of sixteen years, viz:

Talith, born the 6th day of April, 1853;
Hannah Jane, born on the 14th day of June, 1855;
Westly, born the 27th day of June, 1857;
Nancy Urbana, born February 20, 1860;
Sarah Francis, born July 1, 1862.

all of whom are still living, and reside in Richhill Township, Greene Co., Pa.

She also declares that she has in no manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the Rebellion in the United States.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
Greene County, SS.

At an Orphan's Court, held in Waynesburg, in and for said County, on the third Monday of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty six before the Judges of the same.

The petition of Sarah D. Loar (formerly Applegate) respectfully showeth, that her minor children by her former husband, Morrison U. Applegate, viz:
Talitha Anne, Hannah Jane, Wesley, Nancy Urbana, and Sarah Francis Applegate, are minor, under the age of fourteen years, and have no person legally authorized to take charge of their persons and therefore pray the Court to appoint some suitable person for that purpose.

Whereupon, the Court appoint Jacob Loar, Esq. Guardian of said minors.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court, at Waynesburg, this 4th day of April, Anno Domini, 1866.

Claim of Guardian of Orphan Children for Pension.

The State of Pennsylvania, County of Greene, SS.
     On this twenty-fifth day of September, A. D., 1866, before me, Justus F. Temple of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County and State above named, personally appeared Jacob Loar, Esq., a resident of Richhill Township, in the County of Greene, and State of Pennsylvania, aged forty-nine years, who being duly sworn according to law, doth on oath make the following declaration as guardian of the minor children of Morrison W. Applegate, deceased, in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the act of Congress approved July 14, 1862, granting pensions to minor children under sixteen years of age of deceased officers and soldiers:

That he is the guardian of Talitha Anne Applegate, Hannah Jane Applegate, Wesley Applegate, Nancy Urbana Applegate, and Sarah Francis Applegate whose father was a private in Company B, commanded by Captain......., in the First Regiment of West Virginia Cavalry Volunteers, in the war of 1861, and that the said Morrison U. Applegate died at Winchester, Va., on or about the eighteenth day of January, 1865, by reason of Typhoid Fever and in the service.

That the mother of the aforesaid children married to Jacob Loar, Esq. onthe 4th day of September, 1865, by one Rev. George Loar that the date of birth of his said wards are as follows:

Talitha Anne was born the 6th day of April, 1853;
Hannah Jane was born the 14th day of June, 1855;
Wesley, born the 27th day of June, 1857;
Nancy Urbanna born the 20th day of February, 1860;
Sarah Francis born the 1st day of July, 1862.

That the public records of the dates of the births of said children in ct.

He further declares that the parents of his said ward were married at Greene Co., Penna., on the fifth day of December, 1850, by one Jacob Loar, Esq. & that no public record of said marriage in ct.; and he also declares that he has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted the Rebellion in the United States.
