General Affidavit

State of Pennsylvania, County of Greene, ss.
In the matter of the Pension claim of Celeste CONKEY widow of John M CONKEY Co. B. 1st Regt W.Va. Cav. Vols. No. 712.501.

On this 5th day of May A.D. 1903, personally appeared before me, ----- of the Common Pleas Court in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, J. P. ALLUM, aged 61 years, a resident of the Borough of Waynesburg in the County of Greene and State of Pennsylvania whose post office address is Waynesburg Greene County Pennsylvania well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

On 5 May 1903, an affidavit was filed in Greene County, Pennsylvania, by J. P. ALLUM, in the matter of the Pension claim of Celeste CONKEY widow of John M CONKEY Co. B. 1st Regt W.Va. Cav. Vols. No. 712.501. J. P. ALLUM, aged 61 years, a resident of the Borough of Waynesburg in the County of Greene and State of Pennsylvania.........and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

I have been well and intimately acquainted with Celeste CONKEY and John M. CONKEY about all my life. Knew them both long before they were married and satisfied from my knowledge of them that neither of them were ever married before they married each other. They lived together as man and wife up to the time of his death, and they never were divorced. I attended the funeral of John M CONKEY and was one of the pall bearers and saw his corpse and know that the corpse I saw was the corpse of John M. CONKEY who was formerly a member of Co. B. 1st Regt. W.Va. Cav. He died on or about July 25th, 1898. I am also satisfied that Celeste CONKEY has not remarried since the death of John M. CONKEY. I think I would have known it if she had remarried. The said John M. CONKEY did not serve in the army or navy of the United States prior to August 6th 1861 or subsequent to November 15th 1864. He never served in the navy and never served in the army except in Company B. 1st Regt. W.Va. Cav. Vols. from August 6th 1861 to November 15 1864. I am particularly able to make this statement in regard to his service because I was a member of the same Company and regiment.

I further declared that I have no interest in said case, and I am not concerned in its prosecution.

J.P. ALLUM
